Palghat Gap
The Island Express winds its way into Kerala, breaking through the Western Ghats at the Palghat Gap.
.
Today, we are introducing a new kind of feature called "Fan Spots". As we can see through the IRI blogs, most of the fun had by our RailFans are not at Stations, but somewhere in between. "Fan Spots" are a

those interesting spots in a Train journey - they could be frequent X/O locations for specific pairs of Trains, Tunnel entrances, Scenic curves, Man-made monuments along the track, Railway poles, High-Speed zones, ... come up with your own interesting observations and experiences.
.
How to use it:
When you go into the IRI Atlas, you may click on any track. Thereafter, you may zoom into the specific location that you believe is of interest. Click -> Add Fan Spot. The Fan Spot is added, and a Blog is
simultaneously created linked to that Fan Spot. During this introductory phase, you may see Fan Spots only within the IRI Atlas and the Forum section (when the Fan Spot is posted). There will be several en
hancements and modifications in the coming days/weeks. Eventually, Fan Spots will be visible along with the Train Routes (in the Train page) as well as the Station pages, Chains, etc.
.
The feature is open to all users to try it out. Fan Spots take both pictures and video attachments. There will be some bugs, but these will be fixed in the coming days.

I have added my first Train Spot /blog/post/1252036
.
Some Suggestions while we are on the form which comes up when we are creating the FAN SPOT :
1 . Under Select Fan Sport Type , some more options can be added such as ... Ghat Section , Hills and Mountains , Nature , or provide an option as "Other" and give
...
a space to Type the desired word that best suits the spot ( restricted to 15 characters max.)
.
2.Add a another Field named "Nearest Railway Station " must set a search field to retrieve the Station similar to how we search looking up a Station code/name .
.
3 Another field to provide info about the "amenities available" at the Spot such as Food , Hotels, lodges, restaurants, ATMs, Drug Store, Gas Stations etc
.
4. An optional field can be added namely "Near by places to visit" one can fill any near by tourists spots , temples, historical monuments , forts, palaces , shopping , famous food / sweet one should not miss etc post Rail fanning if some one wants to roam around the place.
.
5. One more Important field is "WEATHER ", to provide a note on when is the best time to visit.
