Considering that a vast amount of travel between Kolkata-Kerala sectors is also patronised by migrant workers, it would have been better if counter reservation was also allowed. Many of them may not be aware of online reservations. This would only encourage agents to charge a premium apart from the extra premium which the customer is anyways paying.

I agree to your point on logistical isssues for railways but also i feel they need to probably also gauge as to what is the profile of the majority of passengers travelling on a route. In this east/north east -south sectors if you travel, with the exception of vacation season, you would mostly find migrant workers travelling who i dont think would be familiar with internet. Last year there was an instance when railways had to withdraw a special service between ernakulam-guwahati due to lack of patronisation. The notification of such service was given in english and people were hardly aware of the same.
