As we know that in IRI, we use names for the train through which it is well known in the passengers, so in that case this train should be named as 12904/Golden Temple(Frontier) Mail(PT)...

Names given to trains should be updated as per official name given by Indian Railways. As per IRI users other train name given by local travelers can be used but official name should not be amended in order to avoid confusion.

GT express is not named after the Grand Trunk Road.
A 'Trunk route' is simply a major route with lot of traffic and demand. And back when it was introduced in 1929/30 (Not sure about the exact year), it was the fastest and most prestigious train in the New Delhi - Madras trunk route, hence the name 'Grand Trunk' Express. It has got nothing to do with the famous road link!
