Why Pamban is called as pamban junction, while there is no bifurcation
It was a junction a long, long time ago when there used to be a railway line from Pamban to Dhanushkodi. The line was heavily damaged in the 1964 Cyclone and was abandoned later. Most maps have retained the old name and it is marked as Pamban Junction in most maps.
pamban was jn because lines to dhanushkodi deviated here
same was with peralam lines to karaikal deviated here but now those lines are closed making them no more junctions but old name retained
