The main reasons cited for developing the WAP4 in most documents are :
1. The Traction motors in WAP1 and 3 were Alstom based and had reliability issues. Higher powered Hitachi motors that were being used on the freight locos were very reliable and were considered better for passenger use. So, the efforts started to build a passenger loco with the Hitachi TMs. Better acceleration is also possible with this.
2. Eliminating the need of Bankers on busy graded sections like ET-Nagpur. However, this point has now become sort of irrelevant with 24...

Even with 24 coaches, the difference between the primary contenders (P4/5/7) is miniscule, when all three are at their best. In fact, to note that difference, GPS and stopwatch would be preferable. For a casual traveller, it hardly matters! :D
can you please provide the loco number/numbers of the BZA WAM4 which have been upgrades to 120.
