It may be because DMUs requires only 02 minutes to change direction as the driver switch off engine at one end and go and start engine at other end. While loco reversal takes minimum 15 minutes. Also if miscreants pull chain, the asst loco pilot / guard can easily identify the bogie in which chain is pulled as DMUs/ MEMUs are mixture of one motor unit( mini loco) + 03- 04 bogies. So which section got chain pulled can be identified and valve can be reset by searching only 03 to 04 bogies. Also DMUs have more seating and standing capacity.
Also I think DMUs will not run on chhapra hajipur muzaffarpur barauni route as these are electrified. So MEMUs will run...
