If you are one of those taking the Outer Ring Road between the BEL Circle and Goraguntepalya, your long wait at the railway gates on this stretch might come to an end.
An important link between Hebbal section of the ring road to Yeshwanthpur that was hanging in mid-air for nearly two years is set to be completed in the next four months.
The railway overbridge (RoB), which was conceived to ease traffic snarls on the outer ring road, will provide relief to thousands of commuters who are now getting stuck in jams

at the two railways crossings.
Two-way traffic
This for the first time will provide a hurdle-free two-way traffic flow on the stretch of ORR and ease the biggest bottleneck on the Ring Road. Presently, it takes at least 30 minutes to traverse the less than one kilometre stretch, as the two railway gates are closed for passage of railway traffic for at least 20 times a day, leading a pile up of vehicles on either sides.
South Western Railway (SWR) has begun work on one arm of the ROB over the two railway gates, that was stuck and discontinued for the past two years. While the ramp on the Goraguntepalya side is almost complete, work on the other side will begin soon. The three-lane flyover will be open for two-way traffic in another four months, railway officials said.
“The opening of at least one arm of the flyover for two-way traffic is great news for commuters, who will now have a hurdle-free two-way carriage way. This will also ease the issues in railway traffic movement in the area. Many trains were stopped so that the two gates could be synchronised and closed at the same time to minimise traffic chaos,” said Sanjeev V. Dyamannanavar, an urban commute expert and a regular commuter of the stretch. “The traffic at the junction is the most chaotic and difficult to manage. The railways could have completed at least one arm of the flyover much earlier. This will now give much needed respite for motorists,” said Eshwar J.B., a traffic cop at the junction.
