I was comparing air fares between metros (Mumbai-Delhi, Kolkata- Delhi, Chennai-Delhi, Bangalore-Delhi etc) and found out that even fares for travel dates of just 1 week in advance right now are almost equal to 2A fares on Rajdhanis and slightly above normal 2A fares. If you book more in advance, you can even get cheaper fares. Given this scenario, why would anyone travel by train (I am not talking about intermediate passengers) when they can fly and save 90% of the time for almost the same fare. Even 3A passengers can pay slightly more and fly. The Indian government should now focus on aviation as much as they do on railways as air travel is the way of the future. Aviation should now be given lot of importance and rules and regulations should be changed such that it favors air travel. Railways is also important, no doubt.

Pune and kolkata ka bhi yehi haal hai...long queue tabhi woh jaldi bulate hain.
And yes i agree.....Flights and Trains are own personal choice...But this is also wrong..ki agar hum flights mein travel karte hain toh trains ko Bura-Bhala kahenge...Limits should not be crossed, i think....:)

Indian Railways even at today's cost (at least for SL class) has one of the lowest costs of transportation compared to world standards. Now, Indians protest whenever fares are increased. Indians want world class facilities but don't want to pay for it. There is no free lunch! Railways should remove quotas in railway seat reservations. A large number of quotas exist that eat up a lot of seats that are not available for general quota. A lot of mal practices and frauds happen by agents and railway officials who sell these seats (If remained unsold) at a premium thereby depriving the railways of the revenue!
