Jabalpur-Gondia-Ballarsha Guage Conversion project in SECR is really an epic in itself.
It was one of the first GC projects under taken under when IRlys launched project uniguage in 1991 as it is likely to revolutionize North South travel. This route will reduce the distance from East India i.e. UP/Bihar/ Jabalpur (MP) to Ballarsha/South India i.e. Chennai/ Banglore/Hyderabad & further south by about hefty 250-300kms as compared to the one via Itarsi & Nagpur.!

route is likely to carry is a huge traffic right from the day one of completion!!
About 15000 route kilometers of track has been converted under project uniguage since 1991 but this project is still under implementation inspite of being early starter!!!
Although the first section Gondia-Wadsa about 100 km was commissioned as early as around 1993/4 only about 50% of project (about 280 kms out of 480 kms) has been commissioned till date!!!!
This GC project is probably record holder for longest implementation period amongst the GC projects in spite of having great national importance.
