Query on berth allottment in trains.
I understand that there is some system logic through which berths get allotted in trains. I have tried to book for 6-August for 2 senior citizens by train 16526 from SBC to ERS. Though both are senior citizens travelling together and are unable to get on to MB [middle berths], i still oped for LB &MB.What i instead ended up getting was UB & SU. This despite the fact that there were more than 30 seats available in 3AC at the time of booking. Then i tried in SL and gave the option 'Book only if one lower berth is allotted. Here also the booking did not happen as the system was unable to allott one

lower berth. In sleeper class at that time, there were 130 seats available.
Is there any way by which after booking, one can approach the station master or chief booking supervissor and request for an alternate seat considering the age of the travellers ?
Why is that despite so many berths available, the preferred seat is not made available. Would be great if the logic can also take into account the age of the travellers

Probably, all the LB's were filled. The ones left were UB and SU.

If you go to a PRS counter and book it, you'd get to know whether you're getting your desired berth before proceeding for the booking.

There is nothing wrong with logic, 30 and 130 seats are less wrt to AC and SL. LB gets booked fast. In the available seats, there might not be any LB or SLB. Hence IRCTC came up with alternative. If you want Lower, you can try going to PRS and do the same. But i guess, they will come with same reply saying, no lower berth available.
Another alternative for this is, wait for ticket to go to RAC. Book the ticket moment it goes to RAC. Once ticket get confirmed, there are chance that it will come up with ur preferred choice. It use to work for me, in getting SLB. But again it has flaws, some one in

LB has to cancel.
Another option is exchange, most of the people will be ready for exchange when elderly people asks..
