Trains To Be Delayed, 238 Danger Spots
In a development that could severely impact the Onam rush, trains in the state will be delayed by at least 30 minutes each in view of the speed restrictions imposed for track repair works. It has come to light that tracks have to be replacedrenewed in at least 238 spots in the state and the works will take months.
Senior divisional commercial manager V C Sudheesh told reporters here on Tuesday that speed restrictions had been imposed at many points after the Karukutty train derailment on
Sunday morning. Sources, meanwhile, said there were also chances of trains getting delayed by an hour, particularly during night and early morning.
“A preliminary investi gation has found that the derailment was caused by the delay in repairing the track at the spot. It has already been reported that tracks in at least 202 spots in Thiruvananthapuram railway division alone fall under the immediate removal category , which means they have to be replaced or renewed within three days. Else, the maximum speed at these spots will be restricted to 30kmph,“ a senior officer said.
It's learnt that these include over a hundred spots on the Shoranur Jn-Ernakulam stretch. There are 36 such spots in the Palakkad division. Sources said the decision to impose speed restrictions was taken by section engineers. We have been complaining about the poor condition of tracks for the past many years but there had no action from the higher-ups. A majority of these tracks are overused,“ said an official from the engineering department.
The All-India Railway Engineers Federation, meanwhile, alleged that it was the laxity of higher-ups in removing the flawed track that led to the Karukutty derailment. It said a senior section engineer was suspended from service to put the responsibility on junior-level officers. It also alleged that higher officials normally desisted from imposing speed restrictions to maintain punctuality, putting people's lives in danger.
Engineers have warned of more tragedies if immediate repairs are not taken.“At least 155km rails and related paraphernalia are required to be replaced. We will require months to complete the task but there is no other way,“ a senior engineer said.

Not sure about that, trains like 12601 and MAQ ICE, reached 1hr late at MAQ, in that 1hour, 30 min been was added between SRR-MAQ section. As told before, Parasu, only 20min was added in that section. So not exactly sure whether it is because of TSR or other issue.
May be if someone travels in that section, it will give better idea. NTES can't be treated blindly, they might say train has reached on time, when it was late by 30min

Not exactly true. Even now SR gets 52kg rails instead of 60kg . MAS division completed 140 trials in its main routes but no funds were released later. There is a lack of man power , BBQ yard alone has 300 men shortage

Agree that the toilet waste is also contributing badly in damaging tracks, but the introduction of bio toilets has also in fact affected travel inside trains with more stink, blocked loos, careless travellers throwing waste etc.
So there needs to be some way to balance both. There is no doubt that traffic has increased and resources deployed by railways is very less

Blockage is mainly caused by travelers who threw away things in it. Unless, travelers are not made to understand, nothing can be done regarding this
