I've read that Gitanjali Express was introduced in (first week of) Nov'77 as biweekly.

Gitanjali Express used to be my favourite train during its her days. But it gradually lost its sheen with ever increasing number of stops, ever reducing priority (especially with reference to tremendous increase in freight trains over the route). It became too slow during 80s but later on timing was reduced after strengthening/ complete-electrification of tracks.
