RailFans don't miss their train. Why? Because they go to the station HOURS before the actual departure of their Train - to watch OTHER trains depart. - Prince Maan

Is there any special reason why this train touches ers and reverses? This can go through ern directly..

Near city. Almost all trains via KTYM skips ERS and halts at ERN. Except Kerala and Venad Express.

Correct. Both Venad express and Kerala express can almost reduce their running time by almost 45-1hour minutes if they skip ERS.
As of now in case of Venad express, from the time it arrives in ERN and then departure from ERS after loco reversal close to 1 hour 10 minutes is wasted. In case of Kerala express, from Aluva to ERS 1 hour running time is given to cover just 20km. If it would have gone from ERN itself, the train can easily reduce running time by almost an hour !!

Yes Kerala can byepass ERS and go via ERN saving a huge amount of running time. But it is not practical to do so with Venad Express bcoz a huge lot of daily passengers depend on Venad express. Most offices/schools/colleges are located in close proximity to ERS than ERN.Hence daily passengers will find it easy to board train from ERS.Also it is to be noted that a passenger train from ERS via KTYM is available only at 18.30 in the evening. Once Venad started to skip ERS and go directly to ERN. There was a huge protest from daily passengers. Many passengers including ladies started to jump from a moving train at Ernakulam C Cabin which is the deviation to ERS and ERN and many accidents were reported. Then Venad was again reinstated to its old schedule.

As of now there is too much slack given for Venad right from its arrival at Aluva and departure from ERS after loco reversal. Maybe it can have a delayed start from SRR so that overall travel time is reduced
