good info
There are too many hurdles for them in doing that. The first hurdle comes from the Bus lobby which cuts down proposals when they are still in their infancy. And if the proposal some how manages to survive the Bus lobby, then comes the Railway board. For some reason, ( most probably safety), the Railway board has continuously endorsed SWR's moves and in many occasions imposed more sanctions on the ghat routes. And above all that, SWR itself.
Maintaining the ghat route is a very treacherous job and so it handling operations on the ghats. Freight trains are more preferred as they pose a very small risk. Even a major accident with a freight train on the route, will not have

any casualties and will not come into public attention. However, even a minor derailment with no casualties can cause a ruckus. It's not just about the revenue, they simply do not want to take any risks on this route. Right from the point the descent starts at Castle Rock, till Kulem, there are no safe spots anywhere on the route. No catch sidings to stop runaway trains, or no means to stop a derailed train from plunging into the valley.
While they are promising more trains after doubling of the route, I guess it still would not be more than 3-4 new trains.
