ha ha, the quality of A/N line will be above substandard, that what i heard, because they are planning to increase tourism with it. Kind of semi speed train
With negative rate of returns of -9 they going for substandard like semi speed and here so many lines awaiting and already serving with good positive rate of returns but no such speeds yet.. Nice thinking of MOR over this..
There is a push from the military for this line.That's why the proposal even came up despite the negative returns.
The broad gauge line is required for quick mobilization of military equipment.
For tourism, and even the local traffic, an MG line would be very economical and the rolling stock from the mainland routes which are going through GC can be sent here instead of scrapping them.

ha ha, what to do. This is not first time, even in 2010 also this route got sanctioned by Mamata then RM, Her idea was to use heritage MG trains in the island. but again went into cold storage for 7 years, now again in 2017 they proposed it, let see what will happen this time, already two years over now almost
