Roads typically do not have any problem with sharp curves, gradients etc. So they are quite flexible and land acquisition is usually not a problem for them as they can have any random alignment. Railways have very stringent requirement on curves, gradients, soil quality etc. So, land acquisition is a very big problem for them as the alignment cannot change much from the design.
