the land acqusition is progressing from last year .the estimate was sanctioned in 2014.it is not a new project.

To be very frank, this line would not see much of passenger trains, may be 2-3 daily passengers and a couple of weeklies. It will mostly be used for freight trains bypassing Gondia. But yeas, this line will be useful if there is any disruption in BTC-G route.
Katangi-Tirodi new line project is just a 13 km long missing link costing only Rs. 65 crore which has been demanded by local population & leaders since many decades. This demand became more feasible after Balaghat-Katangi section was converted from NG to BG a few years ago.

Detailed estimate has been sanctioned for Katangi Tirodi way back in 2014.
Near future this line shows its importance because as the Nainpur-Samnapur gauge conversion complete, new trains may ply from Jabalpur to Nagpur via Nainpur-Balaghat-Varaseoni-Katangi and Tumsar road. Commercially, Jabalpur to Nagpur via Gondia may produces less income because several trains ply via Bilaspur-Nagpur track but the above mention route directly link the Nagpur or Jabalpur with the above mention cities so more and more passengers are expected to travel from this route. It will be the one of the shortest route towards Nagpur from Balaghat.
