Come October, and the Indian Railways will offer reservation on demand on select long-distance routes- and that too without leveling any extra charge to passengers.

Sounds impossible. The volume of festivals passengers is way beyond capacity.
* It would be very good if Reservation on demand is available and that too at normal fares.
* Practically it looks possible only after capcaity of saturated sections is duly augmented.
* By 2020, we can expect JNPT-Dadri and Ludhiana-Sonnngar DFCs to be operational and Reservation on demand may be possible on routes like Mumbai-Ahmedabad/Delhi, Delhi-Kanpur/Lucknow/Varanasi/Patna etc but for throughout IR network, it will be difficult.
