This bridge isn't a big monument or an heritage site. If anything of great historical significance is associated with this bridge then there may be a need for its preservation. On the contrary it is just a normal bridge built for the movement of road traffic. Sooner or later all old utility structures without much historical significance will have to be demolished to build infrastructure needed for the present times. Preservation is an expensive affair and not all structures needs to be preserved. Development, cost of preservation and historical significance needs to be taken into account before taking a decision on heritage structures. Coming to this bridge, it has come to the end of its life. Four wheeler traffic was stopped sometime back as the bridge was not suitable. Debris started falling on the tracks. Now it is the time for this bridge to go and moreover it always hindered railway...

development around Chennai Central. Railways and the Corporation of Greater Chennai has taken the right decision to utilise the lockdown to demolish this bridge. Infact people wanted the demolition much earlier.
