Your zone ain't alone. NER atleast has one ICE from Gorakhpur to Lucknow that starts before Five AM, comes via a longer route and then the rake sits idle for four hours. They could reschedule it quite easily but they won't.

The ICE via main line is good. It starts at fifteen minutes to six.The 15069 one sucks. It can start an hour late since it has lots of slack at Lucknow [Aishbagh] .
That ICE is more to serve for loop line route instead end to end as they have plenty of trains as well but not branch line has
