Chinna means small in Telugu...Spellcheck... Not China, It's Chinna.. I think they have added telugu word infront of Salem to mean Small Salem. There are lot of villages in AP who have a tamil names and Telugu names in TN side of land. But Chinna Salem is too far from telugu land. Don't know how it turned up there. Just like "Tiru" in Tirupathi is Tamil.
Chinna means small in tamil too. Infact tamil being the oldest dravidian language lot of tamil words were borrowed in other languages.
Yes, i use to sing Chinna chinna asai during childhood.. :)Tamil versn of Dil hai chota sa..
