Pune is a relatively safe place for Railfanning, just need to be a bit careful that's it. My personal experience is RPFs do not bother much, so have a good look around first and then go on to click photographs. A few vantage points are as under:
.
The siding on the Mumbai end of PF-1: For spotting special coaches, extra coaches
.
...

The siding on Mumbai end of PF-2/3: Usually carries diesel locos - both Alcos and EMDs are parked here
.
PF-6 (Mumbai end): Offers a fantastic view of Electric Loco Trip Shed, stand near the board and zoom your camera to get a good look inside the trip shed. Safe location, devoid of RPFs!!
.
The Pit-lines on the Daund end of PF-1 to see various other rakes being washed
.
The curve at outer of Daund end offers a good view of incoming and outgoing trains.
