RAAS is the word taken from "LORD KRISHNA'S RAAS LEELA" and its worshipped in form of MADAN MOHAN in this area... primariliy the carnival was organised by the kings of coochbehar. NOW every year the coochbehar district authority and "debatra trust" jointly organises the historical raas mela, where krishna devotees comes from all over the world.people irrespective of religious background and stalls from every section of the country selling and exibiting handicrafts are there.
