Beautiful view of Jamalpur Tunnel (Probably the first in India) built by the British. Over 150 years old. Work for building the tunnel commenced in 1856, 1 year before the Great Rani Lakshmibai of Jhansi attained martyrdom in India's first war of Independence. The tunnel was built in 5 years flat and open to public in 1861. An engineering marvel as it withstood the great earthquake of 8.0 magnitude of 1937. It is a pity that the IR could not build another one beside this one as it is has only one track. Such is the poor implementation of ongoing projects is that the Rail cum Road bridge on River Ganges in Munger that commenced on 2003 is nowhere near completion even after 10 years. Budget of which has jumped from 600 crores to over 5000 crores. We have to learn the value of time and discipline from the British. You...
