this is a two way sword
if you have empty berth then you will just pay eft --- this is used specially by intercity pax .
but if coach is full then you end up paying heavy heavy fines ( almost 150 % of original ticket value ) and also end up without seat ( coz coach is full )

In such cases the next in line RAC passengers shall be preferred..Many will be inclined to pay difference fare on UR ticket and travel but will they be preferred ahead of the charted passengers??

this is what the trick used by tte is .
many times they dont clear rac passengers . is their any hard and fast rule to clear rac pax first .. i have not seen it and will be delighted if some one can show it . can action be taken against such tte
many times i have ended as rac pax and tte gave berth to wl pax ( obviously in exchange for monetary benfits to himself )

Why were you Mum then with out asking the TTE,those things happen also depending on en-route joining dear...Say for example you are in RAC from JU-DEE in 12464 and UR ticket holder comes to travel from JU-JP,the TTE shall give him the full berth to him where it shall be used by another passenger from JP-DEE...The TTE cannot clear your RAC and give that berth to you to use it,he can just tell you can adjust in that till JP till new joinee comes. If he doesn't it shall be yours till DEE.

this is a serious loop hole which is used by tte and ur to advantage .
ur pax travel on any empty berth and use diff station quota whereas end to end rac pax suffer because they get clear only if berth empty for entire journey.
