This is bcoz From ANVT mostly Bihar & UP bound high Patronage trains originate which have good occupancy throughout the year irrespective of the season whereas from DLI mostly passenger trains to neighboring states or Not so important trains originate. फेसबुक पोस्ट के मुताबिक, रिटायर्ड आईएएस अधिकारी शिवेंद्र के सिन्हा को सफर के दौरान पैंट्री वेटर ने वेजीटेरियन खाना 90 रुपये लेकर सर्व किया. इस कीमत पर शक होने के बाद जांच करने पर शिवेंद्र ने पाया कि उन्हें आईआरसीटीसी के तय प्राइस लिस्ट से अधिक पर खाना दिया गया.

के रेट कार्ड के मुताबिक ट्रेन में वेजीटेरियन खाना 30 रुपये (टैक्स अलग से) और मांसाहारी खाना 35 रुपये (टैक्स अलग से) में बेचा जाना चाहिए.
लिहाजा, यह तुरंत एक घोटाला बन जाता है जैसे ही पैंट्री कर्मचारी ने तय कीमत से अधिक पर ट्रेन में खाना सर्व किया. वह वेजिटेरियन खाना जिसे 50 रुपये पर बेचा जाना चाहिए था 90 रुपये में बेचा गया. वहीं मांसाहारी खाना जिसे 55 रुपये पर बेचा जाना चाहिए उसे 100 रुपये में बेचा जाता है.

That reporter is saying that their was a head on collision b/w kalindi exp. & a freight train. Thank god that the speed of both the trains was slow otherwise it could have resulted into a severe accident having numerous casualties. LP of Kalindi Express ran away from accident site.

That is why not every Indian Railways project, investment or train service is seen in commercial terms but considered with regard to the connectivity and developmental purposes it serves. Railway hospitals and infrastructure, for instance, help a larger community in the places they are located in.

Railways has been a big supporter of Indian sport. The corporate sector and all those private sector fat-cats who complain and tweet about the absence of a sports culture in India rarely put their money where they mouths - or their keyboard-loving fingers - are. They sponsor glamorous sports such as cricket, tennis and golf but expect the government to take care of the rest. Indian Railways has stepped in admirably here, over the years and decades. The great P.T. Usha, to take but one example, was supported by her employer, Indian Railways, as she raced across Asia, winning numerous gold medals for the country.
This year, with the merger of the Railway Budget with the General Budget, these nuances and sensitivities, these larger social obligations of the railways, have been completely side-tracked. The generosity and sense of mission has gone. In 2016, one-third of the Indian contingent to the Rio Olympics was from Indian Railways. How have they been repaid? By changing rules and making it difficult for sportspersons to train.
The earlier 330-day special casual leave (SCL) will now be given to only a certain category of sportspersons, including Olympics and Commonwealth Games medal winners. The 120-day SCL granted to players without a medal, but with the potential to win one, has been cut to 90 days. Even the provision of half-day leave has now been discontinued, being allowed only in exceptional cases. This will come in the way of regular training. My friend, Suresh Prabhu, please find a solution to this.
The reason Indian Railways, under the leadership of the BJP government, is cutting corners and starving valid programmes of money is because the organisation has made a mess of finances. The gross traffic receipts (GTR) for 2017-18 has been projected at Rs. 188,998 crore. In 2016-17, the GTR was projected at Rs. 184,819 crore. But the revised estimates of the Budget admitted to a shortfall of Rs. 12,664 crore. It is obvious that even this year's projection will fall short. The government is not being honest with the state of railway finances. For the first time since 1978, there was a drop in  freight earnings compared  to the previous year.
As a Kolkata resident, it makes me proud that the Kolkata Metro Railway is performing very well. Budgetary GTR projections for 2016-17 were at Rs. 242 crore. Revised estimates pushed up this figure to Rs. 256 crore. Kolkata Metro, Northeast Frontier Railway and East Coast Railway are the only zonal railways that have posted better figures that the initial budgetary projections. It is here that Indian Railways should be investing, instead of splurging on unviable and grandiose "Bullet Train" projects in politically-favoured regions of the country.
The real work and the real improvements in Indian Railways are not glamorous. Take the example of bio-toilets. There is a Railway Budget promise to fit all coaches of all trains of Indian Railways with bio-toilets by 2019. The government has given up on this. In reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha a few days ago, it said only "about 800 trains" had "either some coaches or all the coaches fitted with bio-toilets". This is a tiny percentage of the total trains that Indian Railways uses. Why are bio-toilets not a priority?
The government is playing with the long-term stability of the railways. This worries me, as somebody who has had generations of his family working in the railways, and who cares deeply for Indian Railways. Since Independence, capital spending on the railways has largely been borne by the central government, and for obvious reasons. The BJP government has pushed 70 projects with nine state governments that require financial and other resource contributions by those state governments.
Many of the states in question are cash-starved and don't have the capacity or experience to execute such massive infrastructure projects. If we are not careful,then these state governments will eventually be saddled with white elephants. Of course by then, the BJP government would have been voted out. It will require the successor government, which will take over in May 2019, to begin the long and gradual process of reviving the railways.

This happens when a Politician writes an article, trying harder and harder to remain apolitical but still at last can't control his political emotions. Seems this high Speed corridor has became a Punching bag for politicians and they more often blame this project for literally every thing.

Indian Railways already has ACD technology and some ALCOs are equipped with that then why don't all Locomotives get that? Fortunately the speed at the time of collision was low otherwise another major accident claiming numerous lives could have happened.

NEW DELHI: The railway board has started rating its 16 zones, with the aim to ensure that all senior officials take their work seriously as the performance of the zones will be reflected in their promotion and career progression.
In the latest rating done by the railway board between April and December 2016, South Eastern Railway headquartered in Kolkata is on the top while North Eastern Railway with its head office in Gorakhpur has got the last rank.

As the new railway dispensation under Suresh Prabhu has brought in a private sector-like appraisal system+ , the career graph of top officers will depend on the amount of money they have helped the state-run transporter earn, physical assets they have helped create and punctuality of trains.
The ranking is based on a set of 17 key performance indicators (KPIs) such as operational and financial performance measured by passenger traffic and freight loading among others.
The KPIs have been made part of the annual performance appraisal reports (APARs) of general managers, divisional railway managers and departmental heads in zonal railways.
"Zonal railways are being evaluated as per relative performance on each indicator by comparing the targets fixed for eachZonal and divisional units were asked for targets for the year. Now, each general manager, DRM and departmental heads are being evaluated against his/her own targets. one after much deliberation," said a senior official.
The KPIs have been set against five broad categories of performance linked directly to the health of Indian Railways. These categories are operational and financial performance, capacity enhancement, capacity utilisation, asset reliability, and manpower training and upgrade. Under financial/operational performance, how much freight has been carried by a zone and how many passengers it has handled will carry maximum weightage.

If Operating ratio would have been considered then it's obvious that NER will take the last spot as it has the highest operating ratio among all other zones. NER generally runs passenger trains and freight haulage is almost negligible in NER that's the reason behind this high OR.

I know that there were 17 Key point indicators but operational & financial performance holds greater importance in the grading process. BTW I feel petty for Rajeev Mishra bcoz he is one of the most dynamic & resilient officer of Indian Railways in current time.
