NEW DELHI: Faced with many vacant seats, railways is mulling to reserve about 50 per cent berths in premier trains including Rajdhani for normal fare by making changes in the prevailing flexi-fare system.
Currently flexi-fare system is applicable in Rajdhani, Shatabdi and Duronto trains since September 9 last year which allows only 10 per cent of the seats to be sold in the normal fare and thereafter it will go on increasing by 10 per cent with every 10 per cent of berths sold with a ceiling of 50 per cent.

The initial review has indicated that revenue has increased at the cost of loss of occupancy in some of the trains and Railway Minister wanted to rectify it, said a senior Railway Ministry official.
Railways has earned about Rs 260 crore from flexi-fare system till date and aimed to touch Rs 500 cr in a year.
"We are trying to make the premier service more passenger friendly with a few changes so that occupancy rate will go up," he said.
About the possible changes, he said "There a few options including keeping at least 50 per cent seats in normal fare. However, no decision has been taken as yet."
Earlier in December, railways had revised the flexi fare sytem by offering 10 per cent rebate on vacant berths after finalization of the reservation charts to attract last minute passengers.

नई दिल्लीः आने वाले दिनों में ट्रेन सफर सस्ता हो सकता है। दरअसल, फ्लेक्सी फेयर स्कीम पर कड़ी आलोचना झेल रही रेलवे अब इसमें बड़े बदलाव करने जा रही है। सूत्रों द्वारा मिली जानकारी के मुताबिक फ्लेक्सी फेयर के तहत पहली 50 फीसदी तक की सीट बुकिंग पर अतिरिक्त पैसे नहीं वसूले जाएंगे। 50 फीसदी सीट भरने के बाद से किराया बढ़ना शुरू होगा।
किराए में ये बढ़ौतरी 10 फीसदी की दर से होगी। 50-60 फीसदी सीट भरने पर 10 फीसदी ज्यादा किराया देना होगा। 60-70 फीसदी पर फिर 10 फीसदी ज्यादा किराया देना होगा। राजधानी, दुरंतो, शताब्दी के बेसिक किराए में 10-15 फीसदी की बढ़ौतरी मुमकिन है।
दें कि फ्लेक्सी फेयर स्कीम के तहत 10 फीसदी सीट बुक होने के बाद किराया 10 फीसदी बढ़ जाता है। 10-50 फीसदी की बुकिंग पर किराया 10 फीसदी तक बढ़ता है। वहीं 50 फीसदी सीट बुक होने के बाद किराए में 50 फीसदी तक की बढ़ौतरी होती है।

A humble request to all the people on IRI.
First of all please note that I am not at all bashing any zone, state, city or any member. Please have a open mindset and a fair judgement towards this post as there is nothing offensive that should be reported but just an honest opinion.
Over the last few months the only topic that people discuss on the Forum and Poll is of GKP, Bihar, ECR & NCR if any one posts any of the above related things in the forum it is then
followed by some useless and repetitive comments. Every time people are posting the same thing again and again in a different way which is again followed by the same old repetitive discussion, whereas if someone posts pictures, videos or information apart from these zone, state or city there is no response at all.
Because of all this IRI has become boring because every other post is related to the same old repetitive topics. There are zones, state and cities apart from these to discuss about there are many other trains that deserve the limelight.
I am not completely against it but the only thing I want is that things should be in limit as excess of any thing is not good.

Apne area se related polls, imaginary trains etc mein jyaada participate/comment karna jaayaz hai dost!!
Kyon ki sabko har area/ state/ zone/ divisions/trains ki jaankari nahin hoti. Is liye jiske baare mein kuch maloom na ho, comment karne (yaani ki Phatte marne) se achcha hai kuch comment na kiya jaaye. Yeh trend member ki imaandari aur logical hone ki or sanket karta hai.

ko bina tathyon pe gaur kar, hameshaa best poll karna,
unka tathyon se pare gungaan karna ityaadi
IRI members ke liye bilkul jaayaz nahin hai,
kyon ki unse aam janata ki tulna mein, rly ke maamlon mein, jyaada jaankari aur vivek ki ummed kee jaati hai.
IRI members ko doosri zones/ states/ area mein interest lena chaiye aur apne mitron se seekhna chahiye, taaki hum sahi maayne mein IR ke jaankar banein. i.e. "India-Rail info" wale banein, aur na ki "apne zone/ state/ division- Rail info" ke.

Ab kya ker sakte hai iska sir, ab koi member kisi Poll me vote kis aadhar pe kare ye koi dusra decide thodehi ker sekta hai. Everyone votes according to his/her's wisdom so it's not fair to comment on that na. It's human nature that you will give more attention to matters related to your own interest/benefit rather than others. Jis Area k members jyada hai wo apne area,zone, division, state se related issues me jyada interest lete hai to hum or aap ise kaise rook sakte hai? can the #moderator make it mandatory that everyone should rate or comment on each & every blog? I agree that irreverent blog and comments shouldn't be allowed to over shadow meaningful subjects and to check that FMs are there so whenever u find anyone just lengthening any blog by doing irrelevant comments then hit the report button, it's what anyone could...
do nothing else.
And BTW IRI that much seriously, IRI is nothing more than a Railway related blogging site so don't get that much indulged in this.

That much longer rake isn't needed, Railway should detached some coach(5-6) from both LTT-TATA and HWH-ERS Antayodaya and a new train could run with that. Both of these trains are running with very low occupancy which makes it quiet evident that a 10 coach rake would be more than enough.

NEW DELHI: India has become the third largest aviation market in terms of domestic passenger traffic, beating Japan, an industry report has said.
India's domestic air passenger traffic stood at 100 million in 2016 and was behind only the US (719 million) and China (436 million), Sydney-based aviation think-tank Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation (CAPA) said in its latest report.
In its latest report CAPA suggests, India acquired the third spot globally by unseating Japan, which flew 97 million domestic passengers in 2016.
air traffic has shown a consistent growth of 20 to 25 per cent throughout 2015 and 2016, peaking in January this year at 25.13 per cent.
However, the domestic travel demand rose 16 per cent in February this year, ending the long streak of over 20 per cent.
According to CAPA, India which enjoyed the fourth position in terms of overall air passenger traffic (both domestic and international) along with the UK, has also inched closer to becoming the third largest one by March next year.
"India will become the third largest market 2-3 years ahead of what was projected. This is because the growth has been much higher," Kapil Kaul, head of CAPA India, said.
Japan, which flew 141 million passengers in 2016, was ahead of India whose total air passenger traffic was 131 million in the previous year, as per CAPA.
United States with 815 million passengers in 2016 enjoyed the top position, followed by China with 490 million, according to the report.
"While we will reach the third spot for both domestic and international air travel ahead of the projected period, we will remain at that position for a very long time because it will not be easy to surpass China and the US," Kaul said.
Earlier International Air Transport Association (IATA), a trade association of the world's airlines has suggested in its passenger forecast that India will displace the UK in terms of becoming world's third largest aviation market internationally as well by 2026.
An aviation market is defined by traffic to, from and within the country.

Dear friend, IR was back bone of Indian economy with majority its revenue more than the revenue from other sources. It had near monopoly over transport at the time of independence with 75% market share of national passenger traffic (90% of freight traffic). How ever, chronic mismanagement and political interference led to continuous erosion of its passenger traffic market share which is today as low as 10-20% (20-30% of freight traffic), with road sector (bus/other vehicles) snatching away majority of its market share.
Now with severe onslaught of aviation sector, IR shall
loose majority of its high revenue (AC class) passengers and may be relegated to a status of irrelevance to nation/ national economy.

Indian Railways bad financial management and policies aren't the only reason behind this downfall, development of other means of transportation since Independence to the current time is also the reason behind this exodus of passengers from Railways. Just compare the no. of operational Airports in our country at the time of Independence and now.

Our nation has grown/ developed a lot during 7 decades of independence, but majority of benefits have been reaped by better managed private players in the field of Road and Air modes of transport. IR was happy with marginal increment in its traffic and revenue and road sector grew leap and bounds and now traffic in air sector is also growing fast.
The better managed road and air sectors are winners and worse managed IR a loser, in spite of it being highly cost effective. So the management was so bad that
inherent advantages of rail transport were more than wiped off by the extreme inefficiency of IR.
It is a race bro, one who runs faster wins. You can say the winner ran fast, or the loser ran slow, the result is same!

चीनी कंपनियों की नज़र अब भारतीय रेल नेटवर्क पर लग गयी है, जिसमें होने वाले किसी भी सुधार का असर ग्लोबल अर्थव्यवस्था में भी देखने को मिलेगा ।
चीनी कंपनियों को भारतीय रेल व्यवस्था सोने का अंडा देने वाली मुर्गी दिखने लगी है । ग्लोबल मंदी के समाप्त होने आसार स्पष्ट रूप से दिखने लगे हैं जिसका सीधा असर स्टील उत्पादकों द्वारा अपने उत्पादन को बढ़ाने के संकेतों में देखने को मिल रहा
है ।
दुनिया भर में स्टील की मांग के बढ़ने को अर्थव्यवस्था में सुधार के रूप में देखा जा सकता है । भारतीय रेल नेटवर्क को जितने स्टील की आवश्यकता है उतने से किसी भी प्रकार की वैश्विक मंदी को लम्बे समय तक के लिये रोका जा सकता है । चीन में पिछले कुछ समय से उत्पादन घटना प्रारंभ हो गया है जिससे उबरने के लिये चीन नए बाज़ार की तलाश में है जिसमें अब भारतीय रेल नेटवर्क उसे सबसे चमकता सितारा नज़र आने लगा है ।
वहीं भारत सरकार चीन की ओर से किये जाने वाले निवेश के प्रति अपने यहां उत्पादन इकाइयों को संरक्षण प्रदान करने के उद्देश्य से अनेक प्रकार एंटी डंपिंग शुल्क चीनी उत्पादों पर समय समय पर लगाती है जिसे चीनी मीडिया संरक्षात्मक मानसिकता के रूप में प्रचारित करता रहता है ।
भारत सरकार चीन के प्रति सावधानी का रवैया अपनाती आ रही है रेल नेटवर्क अभी तक पूरी तरह से विदेशी बाज़ार के लिये नहीं खोला गया है जिसमें विनिर्माण से सम्बंधित ऐसी कोई सामग्री नहीं है जिसका प्रयोग नहीं होता है ।
भारत सरकार जहाँ पूर्वोत्तर में रेल नेटवर्क को विस्तृत करने का प्रयास कर रही है वहीं चीनी मीडिया समय - समय पर भारत को सीख देने में कोई कसर नहीं छोड़ते हैं ।

चीनी दैनिक ग्लोबल टाइम्स ने मंगलवार को कहा है कि उच्च गति वाली रेल परियोजनाओं पर साझेदारी में प्रवेश करने से रोकना भारत के सर्वोत्तम हित में नहीं है।
ग्लोबल टाइम्स के एक संपादकीय ने कहा है कि भारत को संरक्षण वादी प्रवृत्ति का प्रयोग नहीं करना चाहिए क्योंकि यह देश में आर्थिक विकास को बाधित करेगा, जब वह उच्च गति वाली गाड़ियों को लाना चाहता है।
"भारत को चीन की तुलना में चीन की जरूरत अधिक है और इस्पात रेल विनिर्माण और ट्रेन प्रौद्योगिकी के क्षेत्र में भारत को चीन की जरूरत है"।
"बेशक, भारत चीन के खिलाफ सतर्क रहा है और उसने जापान को देश की पहली उच्च गति रेलवे परियोजना के साझेदार के रूप में चुना है, जो 2018 में शुरू होने की संभावना है।
संपादकीय ने कहा, "भारत के रेल नेटवर्क को सुधारने का प्रयास दुनिया में चौथा सबसे बड़ा है, "चीन ने हाल के वर्षों में दुनिया भर में अपनी उच्च गति वाली रेल प्रौद्योगिकी निर्यात करने के लिए प्रयास किए हैं, जिससे चीनी अर्थव्यवस्था ने एक नया मुकाम बनाया है।
यह कहा गया था कि भारत संरक्षक था क्योंकि पिछले साल छह महीने के लिए कुछ चीनी स्टील उत्पादों पर एंटी डंपिंग शुल्क लगाए गए थे। " एंटी डंपिंग शुल्क जैसे, व्यापार उपायों के आवेदन, निश्चित रूप से भारत के घरेलू निर्माताओं की रक्षा करने के लिए एक ढाल बनाते हैं, लेकिन इस बीच ये उपाय एक राष्ट्रव्यापी रेल नेटवर्क को एक कुशल और विश्वसनीय फैशन में पुनर्जीवित करने से रोकते हैं।"
उच्च गति वाले रेल परियोजनाओं से चीन को बाहर करना यह "भारत के हित में नहीं है", चीनी सरकारी मीडिया द्वारा इस शीर्षक से एक खबर को प्रमुखता से प्रकाशित किया गया है ।जिसमें इन प्रमुख बातों का उल्लेख किया गया है :-

अखबार ने इस हफ्ते की रिपोर्ट को भी बताया कि योजनाबद्ध 130 अरब डॉलर , रेलवे के लिए पांच साल का ओवरहाल खतरे में है क्योंकि राज्य सरकार की स्टील अथॉरिटी ऑफ इंडिया या सेल पुरानी पटरियों की जगह या नई बिछाने के लिए पर्याप्त सामग्री नहीं दे पा रही है । एक रिपोर्ट में कहा गया है कि रेलवे निजी क्षेत्र को 700 मिलियन डॉलर तक की वार्षिक खरीददारी खोलने पर विचार कर सकती है।
संपादकीय ने कहा, "भारत के रेल नेटवर्क को सुधारने का प्रयास दुनिया में चौथा सबसे बड़ा है, जाहिरा तौर पर आपूर्ति-साइड विचलितता से पीड़ित है, क्योंकि इसकी सरकारी स्वामित्व वाली रेलवे कंपनी उत्पादन की कमी से निपटने के लिए निजी कंपनियों द्वारा आपूर्ति के प्रति आशंकित रहती है।"
वर्तमान में चीन, भारत, दक्षिण कोरिया, तुर्की में आर्थिक पुनर्गठन की प्रक्रिया स्टील उद्योग के लिए बढ़ती हुई मांग की तरफ संकेत करती है।

Govt. is going in a right direction, why benefiting others when our own state owned companies like SAIL can provide raw materials. It would be a win-win situation for both our of our public enterprises, Indian Railway and SAIL.
