WDP1's are only about 20 years old and are younger than the WAP5 !! Until the BZA-BVRT route is electrified, BZA's WDP1's may not be condemned. If at all, they be condemned due to the availability of more advanced EMD's, but not due to age. They still have at least 15 years left in them. :)

Yes indeed, my apologies... WDP's had begun to be condemned since the last i was living in vijayawada(4 months ago), so assumed this was one too. Also BZA has barely any WDM-2/3A's.

They have completed the interlocking works and RRI is active now, although control panel has not been made operational which would be done in a day or two. After that and post CRS approval, the line may be commissioned on 25-03-2017 or at a later date, lets see!

The cold breeze was making it very difficult to sleep in peace, I had to get off wobbling away to find something warm. It was
the 04th of july 2015, I was onboard the 18047 Amaravati Express enroute to Goa from Vijayawada, by the time I woke up the next morning, the train and me were both at Gadag Junction in karnataka, late by 02 hours and crawled our way into Hubli Junction in an hour.
Post Hubli is when you find a distinct change in the landscape, the semi-arid deccan plateau transits to a greener and considerably wetter terrain and that’s when you know that you are approaching the western ghats (Or the Sahyadris if you prefer to call them that as called in Maharashtra). My destination for the day was the Kulem, a goan village after Dudhsagar Waterfalls in Goa to board a train back to Bengaluru. The Western ghats together, from Maharashtra to Kerala through Goa, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu form one of the most diverse biodiversity hotspots in the world. Owing to the elevation and continuity of the western ghats range, they block much of the south west monsoon from quickly spreading across the rest of the deccan plateau and as a result are wet most of the time with average rainfall much higher than the rest of the country, except perhaps the north eastern States.
Needless to say, the difficulty in terrain has always made connectivity to the west coast difficult from the rest of the country. The four major crossings of the Western Ghats by rail are the Bhor and Thull Ghats near Kasara and Khandala in Maharashtra, Braganza ghats near Castle rock in Goa and Shiradi ghats between Sakleshpur and Subhramanya road in Karnataka. The Ghats are very steep for trains to operate with the usual locomotives and evidently require Bankers or breakers (Additional Locomotives at the front or rear of the train consist) to ascend/descend. This might appear interesting only to rail entusiasts or technically inclined people in general but there is something in these ghats which immediately captivates everyone, the melancholy and sheer beauty, perhaps nature at its purest and best.
Dudhsagar waterfalls, my first pit stop happens to be in the Braganza ghats of Goa, about 12 kms off the Karnataka State border on one of the railway ghat sections mentioned earlier, the ghat begins at Castlerock railway station in Karnataka (the last station in KA) and traverses through Caranzol, Dudhsagar and Sonalium Stations to end at Kulem station in Goa, descending 510 mts in a distance of 26 kms. The waterfalls, a beautiful four tired falls on the mandovi river, in itself is seasonal and is usually at its full glory between August-October.
The train I was in, amaravathi express, crossed alnavar junction while I was lost in my own thoughts standing at the door, and started turning and twisting its way to Castle rock through the Anshi-Dandeli Tiger reserve. Apart from the train itself, everything else begins to appear green from this point, lush semi-evergreen forest engulfs you from everywhere around, transporting you into a world apart amidst which arrives Castle rock. Castle rock is a station with no apparent reason for existence, this is where breakers are attached for trains going downhill and detached for trains just having climbed uphill.
Three locomotives (WDG-4 from UBL Shed) were attached at the front, ahead of the existing twin GY WDG-3G’s which hauled my train from Guntur and we slowly began going downhill with a Maximum permissible speed of 30KMPH. The Speed was absolutely no reason to complain though, right after castlerock begins the spectacle of breathtaking views and jaw dropping moments traversing through tunnels amidst nearly incessant rain which keeps you hooked to the windows. The first station in this stretch is Caranzol (trains going downhill in this ghat section either freight or passenger are mandated to stop at all the three stations between Castle rock and Kulem for a brake test) after which the skies were literally pouring down all the way till dudhsagar.

my family wants to visit dudh sagar waterfalls. they planned to take amaravati 18047 from ubl to dds. there are 5 adults in our family with two elderly people. so is it comfortable to take elderly people? and more important thing is will amaravati surely stop at DDS? recent travellers please answer

All Trains including Amaravati stop at all stations(Caranzol,Dudhsagar and Sonalium) while descending the ghats for brake test, Dudhsagar falls is about 700-900 mts from DDS station(Or just a tunnel away if you look at it). However as other members suggested, elderly people might find it difficult to get down the train and its not worth the risk IMO.
While going uphill trains dont need to stop at either of the three stations, atleast VSG-YPR Exp didnt. But as Mr.Vivek says and heard often, it does seem like Goa Exp and Amaravathi UP
stop there.

Is there any necessity of calling this station as junction.Since i dont see till now no express trains are been introduced and also i guess on this no body interested to show the demands till now?
going further we demand to introduce one express conecting to bangalore as trial expeirmental purpose.
Going further they can start diverting Karnataka Sampark to run this train via gadwal - raichur chord line since its does not have any stops till dharmavaram.
they can easily think of this route.

I am talking off long distance trains as there is no necessity for this people to pass via Krnl.
Since this krnl route is very congested and also people utilization is very less compare to this train.
Better i guess this is sure it will be diverted once raichur electrification route got completed via Vikarabad even Gadwal route is also not required i guess.Since that route is very high speed,Fully Double line till gtl,Time Save,Diesel Save,No need of shunting at kacheguda due to Wap change.
if railway will get this many benefits,why they will waste the money using this congested route.

Firstly, GWD-KRNT-DHNE is not congested in the day, the time when KSK passes through. Its congested only from the evenings till early morning. We are not talking about the VKB-WADI route at all here, all we are talking of is why KSK is better off running via KRNT! Oh and SC-GTL via VKB,WADI is not fully double technically and neither is it electrified!

We need to think of Time constraint and railway revenue.
The shorter distance make sense,but they were so many drawbacks.We need to encourage the railways in making much profit,then only burden charges will get reduce.Since railway are already invested so much amount of making double is because of reducing time and reach destiny before time.
So going further we need to provide the better results for making utlization of this route and once after profit they can slowly start other side of development of making electrification b/w KCG to GTL.
do you know this route information SC-GTL via VKB,WADI is not fully double technically and neither is it electrified!?
As we are travelling everytime of this route and as we noticed only major bridge work is in progress at matralayam,so once this completed i hope its 100% complete of double and also eletric work,the work is inbetween kosigi & Krishna also inb/w each of this station the work is in progress.
As i Guess this is target before March 2016.
Its 80% of work been completed.
I hope we can suggest good solutions for railways.If any please advice.

I know about this route very well my friend, you dont have to worry about that! I am from Hyderabad and travel way too often. Anyway, yes work is pending at the alignment of bridge at mantralayam road and that is the only stretch(Mantralayam road-Matmari) which is not doubled between GTL-SC yet, i agree hence i said technically not fully double. As far as the electrification is concerned, poles are up from either sides(From wadi side and GTL side) upto Yadgir and intermittently pretty much everywhere but there seems to be no likelihood of completion of electrification atleast till 2016 end or early 2017, for example look at YNK-GY, electrification started more than 2 years ago and is not complete yet.

Thanks Ya but its not fair as per target date it has to be completed before march 2016,if not will they plan to use of partial complete and run starting WAP with single electrified .Its long wait pending of dream as we want to see end to end WAP.
ex Delhi-SBC hope dream comes true at least.
Also the other side Daund to Gulbarga this is also in progress i guess.

Will be done in next budget hopefully.Ideally this should have run via NED-NZB-KCG-GY just like NSL-MS Exp. Saves about 75 kms and avoids three reversals.

This is taking diff route,especially connecting Parli vailnath,Bidar and ZHB to RU(an alternate to tpty).
Every train we should not expect to run in shortest route,agreed 42kmph avg speed is less can be increased

This looks really interesting, any idea how many minutes did it have a halt at Wadi in the earlier TT? looking at this it appears that it may have a Diesel to Electric change at Wadi(10 mins halt) and then diesel from BZA, since loco attachment at BZA is the other side it makes sense giving the 10 minute halt! Only a guess though!
