But nowadays, under most of these sockets, there is a notice displayed to the effect - Only for charging mobiles and not laptops etc. I find quite many techies boarding the train, occupying their berth and keeping their laptops charged throughout their entire journey, watching movies or doing office work. If a passenger like me wants to charge his mobile, you will have to request them and they feel they are doing a great favour by letting other passengers use the charging point.

Ya, I have seen those stickers too but still a Laptop Consumes max. 100 watt but an electric kettle is definitely unacceptable. BTW some tips for You sir, either carry a Power Bank or a USB cable and charge your mobile by connecting it with those techies' laptops too. For even worse situations I carry a three pin too...:D

विगत रेल बजट में घोषित श्रीगंगानगर-तिरूचिरापल्ली हमसफर साप्ताहिक एक्सप्रेस आगामी सोमवार 27 फरवरी को श्रीगंगानगर से सायं 3 बजे उद्घाटन ट्रेन संख्या 04715 के रूप में रवाना होकर गुरूवार प्रात: 7 बजे तिरूचिरापल्ली पहुचेंगी।
इस स्पेशल गाड़ी में यात्रियों के लिये आरक्षण शुरू हो गया है। इसके बाद आगामी सप्ताह में यह गाड़ी अपने निर्धारित शैडयूल से चलेगी। रेलमंत्री सुरेश प्रभाकर ‘प्रभु रेल भवन से विडियों कान्फ्रेंसिंग के जरिये व श्रीगंगानगर रेलवे स्टेशन पर पूर्व केन्द्रीय राज्यमंत्री व सांसद निहालचंद इस गाड़ी को हरी झण्डी दिखाकर रवाना करेंगें।

हमसफ र रेल की नियमित समय सारणी जारी कर दी गई है। जैड़आरयूसीसी के पूर्व सदस्य भीम शर्मा ने बताया कि श्रीगंगानगर से प्रत्येक सोमवार रात्रि 12.25 बजे (रेलवे समय के अनुसार मंगलवार) गाड़ी संख्या 14715 श्रीगंगानगर-तिरूचिरापल्ली हमसफ र एक्सप्रैस रवाना होकर गुरूवार दोपहर 1.30 बजे तिरूचिरापल्ली पहुंचा करेंगी। वापसी में गुरूवार को ही गाड़ी संख्या 14716 तिरूचिरापल्ली-श्रीगंगानगर हमसफर एक्सप्रैस रात 11.30 बजे तिरूचिरापल्ली से रवाना होकर रविवार अपरान्ह 3.15 बजे श्रीगंगानगर लौटेगी।
इस गाड़ी में थर्ड एसी के 16 कोच, एक पेन्ट्रीकार व दो पावर कार सहित 19 डिब्बे होंगे। इसमें प्रत्येक कोच में 64 की जगह 72 बर्थ होंगी।
इस गाड़ी के प्रत्येक कोच में जीपीएस आधारित दो एलईडी डिस्प्ले बोर्ड लगा होगा, जिसमें आने वाले स्टेशन की सूचना होगी साथ ही दिव्यांगों की सहायता के लिए ब्रेल डिस्प्ले सिस्टम, धुए एवं आग की सूचना हेतु अलार्मयुक्त सेंसर, सीसीटीवी कैमरे, डिब्बे के वातावरण को सुगंधित रखने हेतु डिस्पेंसर, स्वच्छ भारत मिशन के तहत नई डिजाईन के कचरा पात्रा व बॉयो टॉयलेटस होंगे।

Was travelling with my wife by this train which departed from MAS on 7th February. The next day I ordered an EGG MEAL THALI which was served by the PC staff a little before we reached VSKP. I had earlier seen the rate list displayed on a board in the pantry car which indicated that the rates were Rs.50 for a veg meal and Rs. 55 for a non-veg meal. After we had consumed the meal, at about 3 pm, the staff asked me to pay Rs. 160 for the meal. I was well aware of this kind of extortion in this and several other long-distance trains. But I quietly told the waiter that I would
go to the pantry car and pay there.
Later I enquired of the manager why I was being charged Rs. 160 for a meal which according to their own rate board cost only Rs.55. The manager conned me saying Rs.55 was for a STANDARD THALI whereas what I had been served was a DELUXE THALI (whatever that means). I came back without paying.
I whatsupped a few of my admin friends from IRI. They asked me to insist on a bill before payment. One of them also msgd me a mobile number to lodge a complaint which I promptly did. There was an instant response from IR saying the matter is being investigated and they will revert in due course.
Meanwhile the PC staff came again for payment at around 5pm and, as requested, gave me a bill for Rs.160 before collecting the cash. I immediately sent a snap of the bill to my WA group of IRI admins. What followed was a spate of tweets to the Railway Minister and EVERYBODY who is SOMEBODY in IR.
There was a lull till say 8.30 pm by which time the train had reached Khurda Road. Suddenly 2 staff from the PC came to my bay with a dinner thali. My wife and I declined it saying we had finished our dinner. They then REFUNDED me an amount of Rs. 105 (160-55) and requested me to withdraw my complaint. The guys looked pretty menacing and as my wife was scared out of her wits I had no option but to comply with their request. I immediately smsed saying the amount charged in excess had since been refunded and the matter may be treated as resolved. But IR was apparently in no mood to let go and msgd back saying matter will be closed only after due enquiry and action. I am sharing my experience so that it can serve as eye-opener to all my friends here who may face similar situations during train travel.

In many trains, the charts/boards are removed from the PC to facilitate this fraud. Only yesterday one of my friends reported that the rate chart at the PC was torn so that passengers could not read it

But their has to be a way by which non-internet using class of this vast Railway system can know their entitlements regrading catering services. Just Posting rate chart on Social media sites isn't enough, mass awareness drive should be started by Railway authorities to check this loot. As Railfans we people should also contribute in that by informing as many people as we can during our journey in train about the genuine price of the food items & what they should do if any PC vendor overcharges him/her.

Ignorance is bliss....Many people turn a blind eye towards overcharging of food. Thank you for sharing your experience sir! IR should take steps to curb such corrupt practices that are routine in our trains. I am glad to hear that IR has kept the enquiry on.

to December 2015 : No idea about whom we were trying to conquer. We underestimated our opponent and over confident of our abilities. We had the will but we couldn’t find the way. We planned a lot and fell short. Nevertheless, we did not give up. We learnt from our mistakes, we respected our opponent, we understood our limitations, we figured out how to mitigate our weaknesses and harness them into strengths. December 2015 never let us down, it gave us what we needed to complete our mission. We came back a year later determined, prepared, stronger, confident & with a load of genuine respect for our opponent and this time we conquered.

Winter of 2015, we were refreshingly tired after our experience with the Nilgiri Mountain Railways(NMR) trekking from Kallar to Hillgrove. The Nilgiris brought us down to our knees and were forced to cut short our expedition by at least 4-5 kilometers for various reasons which includes a minor casualty due to slight dehydration. Down, but not yet out a unanimous decision was made to complete the challenge the following year and thus started the planning for the second half of the adventure, which is to trek from Hillgrove to Coonoor on the UNESCO Heritage NMR. After a full couple of minutes, the plan was finalized. Take the NMR ride from Mettupalayam to Hillgrove & trek along the tracks from Hillgrove to Coonor. Book tickets on the opening day and this time be prepared, mentally prepared. Dates, a weekend of Dec 2016. With 5 options for weekends in Dec 2016, we would end up discussing / planning / evaluating individual’s availability, commitments and constraints before we would end up with the weekend of Dec 17-18 2016 to complete our mission. Permissions would be obtained and bookings would be completed in due course.
It was a mildly overcast sky when I returned from work. An unusually busy day at work followed by usual domestic stuff, a day unlike any other. I could vividly recollect the events of that Monday. Extreme fatigue and I had all the symptoms of going under the weather until the weekend. Wanting to cheer me up, for a change, I decided to engage myself in the whatsapp conversations of the selected two or three rail groups, I am a part of. I hate typing on mobiles and not very good at trying to send my message across on text. I kind of need supplemental messaging formats commonly called as body language & delivery tone associated with my postings to accurately deliver my message, which I so lack in Whatsapp and chats. Emoticons can only do so much. Added to that being not an outgoing extrovert myself, a post from me on Whatsapp usually takes a couple of seconds for others to register and realize my presence amongst them. The moment I opened up my chats, I could sense some “tension” and with the lack of real emotions, our group already had a dropout. Apparently some nerves got pinched and resulted in unexpected outcomes. There were already around four dropouts earlier. The group is now down from around 22-23 to a paltry 15-16. I am now struck with a dilemma, as the drop out was none other than my usual partner in crime. With all these uncertainties, I just left the situation as it is and expected time to take care of the situation. It was not until a couple of weeks prior to the planned trek, that issues started resolving itself and not before other emergencies claimed a couple more wickets. Over a quick get together with IRFCAns in Bangalore, PK & self confirmed to have the trek back on track to the organizing team in Coimbatore. With things now looking up and the schedule now back on track, nature had other plans for us.
Week of Dec 12-17 2016. Cyclone Vardah rips apart Chennai. Nature unleashes its fury. Trains were cancelled and those running had unpredictable delays and schedules. NMR passes through some dense jungle, steep & curvy mountainous gradients and is ripe for landslides even during dry weather. It is a very delicate customer and just as Mr Murphy wanted, land slides disrupt the rail traffic on the Hillgrove – Coonoor section just after Hillgrove, the exact section we wanted to trek. All NMR train services stand cancelled until 17-Dec-2016, the exact date we were scheduled to board the “OOTY TRAIN” from Mettupalayam to Hillgrove. The optimistic bunch of railfans that we were and our lack of faith in Mr Murphy’s persistence ensured we did not alter our plans and decided to proceed as scheduled. Meanwhile in Bangalore, my travel partner, being a sincere employee that he is threatens to cancel his trip again prioritizing his official commitments. No longer interested in these uncertainties, I decided to care no more and collected my PRS tickets from him the previous day, 15-Dec-2016 en route from my workplace to home.
By Now, the news was official and the press started spewing its venom. Accusations flew liberally on the mismanagement in NMR, how tourists are made to suffer due to cancellation of these services, how IR whiles away its time without doing any real proactive work. During the course of our trek, we witnessed how NMR was trying to get the tracks cleared of the landslide, which I would present in due course. After all, it is press, who is no longer interested in delivering news, but focused only on TRP, cheap attention grabbing headlines and letting us know how a simple and straightforward twitterati response by an unknown self proclaimed celebrity has knocked the wind out of everyone criticizing them. Little do these armchair activists with 3 inches of makeup, who follow celebrities and pornstars in social media for “real” news, know the real world. Please allow me to vent my frustration because these news articles did make a dent in may plan. I had to spend an eternity in convincing everyone back home, that we are a bunch of crazy folks, but would never do to anything to put anyone of us in jeopardy. If nature had other plans, so do we and we will venture out doing something else. After a challenging session to make people see the sanity and levelheadedness in me, it was time for a conference to decide what to do. It was ultimately decided that we would meet at Mettupalayam and evaluate.

Nice trip diary
The month of December. A month about which most of the railfans of India know. Fog, delayed, resch and cancelled trains. Well the date of the trip was decided well in advance even before I left Bokaro for NDLS and to come back. But this time, i wanted to try something else. Equally confused, should I take my fav Rajdhani or go for something else.. like 12826 or 12818 or 12802. Could not decide it. The trains were running on time, till mid November. I risked it, and booked a tkt in Purushottam Express, though I was well aware, that fog may ruin the 130 madness. But still I risked it. Then suddenly one night, everything changed. It happened almost 15 16 days before my trip. The Rajdhanis were delayed by 5 to 6 hrs between MGS and CNB and the delay was increasing. I took it as a common incident,...
maybe some issue. The next day I came to know, it was the notorious FOG. Anyways in the hope that situation would improve, I didn't cancel the tkts, keeping in mind, Purushottam has a long TAT. But the situation was getting worse and worse day by day and my hopes for 130 and timely arrival at BKSC were demolishing with each day passing. After a week attack, the weather cleared. My hopes were back on track. But the continuous resch from both sides kept me in dilemma. Anyways, I was thinking, 130 MPS can do something, and then the fog attacked again. More severly. My hopes lost.I was badly confused, to take 12440 or 12802. Finally, I decided to go with 12440. But seems, God was is=n no mood to spare me. The prices were much higher. I cancelled the thought of Booking. I kept on keeping my hopes high. While my PNR was moving at snail's pace. When it reached WL 8, I posted it on the DOJ, as I had made up my mind to go by 12802 now. /pnr/post/2077666.
I was still thinking in the morning, should I book in 12440 :p. Finally, i said.. Jo hoga dekh lenge. These decisions we often take in our lives. :p. The train arrived NDLS at abt 6 PM. I was damn sure, it wud depart ontime or a maximum of 30 mins delayed. Suddenly after few mins my frnd called " bhaiyya, train to raat 1 baje jaayegi ". And for few moments, my mind went blank. In Hindi, we have a proverb --- " jab okhli mai sar de diya to ab kya darna". Anyways I collected myself back. My everything was packed. I left my PG at app 23:00 hrs. Booked a cab, and reached at 23:25. Thanks to nil traffic. Shivganga was being placed and Prayagraj was in pitline. TN was yet to be placed alongwith GT. AP was being placed. Poorva, as usual, running extremely delayed and ETA was 2 AM. I arrived at PF 9. BSP Rajdhani was in the sickline with ET WAP 4. A shatabdi came at PF 9. While Mahabodhi was placed few minutes before that. All were speculating, once shatabdi goes to yard, the train would be placed on PF
Mahabodhi was full. Heavily crowded even in such winters. Finally the shatabdi was taken to pitline. an announcement was done - "Passengers your attention please, Saharsa - Amritsar Garibrath is arriving on PF 9.".. " Yatrigan kripya dhyan dijiye, Saharsa se chalkar AMritsar ko jaane wali, Amritsar garib Rath, Platform number nau pe lagayi jaa rahi hai aur gaadi sankhya 12802 nayi dilli se chalkar puri ko jaane wali, purushottam express, abhi takniki dekhrekh ke liye yard mai khadi hai. Jaise hi gaadi platform pe lagayi jayegi, aapko soochit kiya jayega." I was like.. WTH... I had become Jethalal. Finally, the train was placed at app 01:50 AM. It departed at 02:04 AM. I exchanged my UB with SLB.

Aravind, AFAIK, there is no CC in this train. What's there is that btwn SBC & MYS you are permitted to trave/book in 3AC by paying ONLY CC fare in this as well as 4 other trains Viz. Tuticorin-Mys Exp, Hampi, Golgumbaz and Kaveri as per an SWR notification issued about 6 months ago. Perhaps this is what you are referring to.
