Mar 16 2017 (08:20)   Bear 50% cost of Bengaluru suburban rail project, BJP MP tells Centre

BJP MP PC Mohan in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday urged the Union government to accept Karnataka government’s proposal for bearing 50% of the cost for the suburban rail project serving Bengaluru and adjoining areas.
Raising the issue in the Lok Sabha during a debate on the demands of grants for railways, he said the draft policy for the project stipulates that the Centre and the state would each fund 20% of the cost and the state can avail loans for the remaining 60% of the total cost.
The Karnataka government, however, wants the
project to be implemented in public-private-partnership mode with sharing of the cost in the ratio of 50:50, he said. “I request the government to accept it (Karnataka government proposal). Same model has been given to Chennai and others too. Once suburban trains are there, there will be less congestion on roads (in Bengaluru),” Mohan, who is an MP from Bengaluru Central, said.
He said the Metro would not be able to meet the requirement of the city. Suburban trains can bring great relief to the people by covering Bengaluru and its adjoining areas within the range of 70-140 km like Mysuru. “I request Railway Minister (Suresh Prabhu) to look into the matter and immediately clear suburban trains for Bengaluru division,” he added.

Very good news. In fact we were demanding that 22693/94 which runs 3 days a week via DHNE should go via RC and SEM so that more regions of North eastern districts of Karnataka like Raichur, Yadgir and Kalbaurgi could be covered. If it happens i am happy because I met former RM Sri Kharge and pleaded him to look into this.

Mar 14 2017 (08:23)   Kudla Express to run on newly laid Bengaluru-Hassan line

Entry# 2196924   News Entry# 296275         Tags   Past Edits
The demand for a faster train journey between Bengaluru and Mangaluru will soon be realised with the South Western Railway (SWR) proposing to run Kudla Express, the soon-to-be-launched day train, on the newly laid Bengaluru-Hassan line.
This will bring the journey time down to nine hours. At present, it takes about 11 hours going via Arsikere (400 km) and 12 hours via Mysuru (450 km).
The zone is awaiting the Railway Board’s nod as well as indication of available dates of dignitaries to commence the service, which will begin with as a tri-weekly,
for want of rakes. The Yeshwantpur-Mangaluru Central service will run on Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday, leaving Bengaluru at 7 a.m. to reach Mangaluru at 4 p.m. The Mangaluru Central-Yeshwantpur service will run on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, leaving Mangaluru at 10.50 a.m. and reaching reach Yeshwantpur at 7.50 p.m., SWR sources said.
The service was announced as a daily via Mysuru by former Railway Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda. Following a public interest writ petition by the Udupi Railway Yatri Sangha before the Karnataka High Court, the SWR had promised to start the service by March 31.
The SWR has also proposed to make Mangaluru Junction the termination point of the Yeshwantpur-Karwar-Yeshwantpur tri-weekly (16515/516), given the low patronage between Mangaluru and Karwar. The Yeshwantpur-Karwar service leaves Yeshwantpur at 7 a.m. and reaches Mangaluru Junction at 5.40 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, while the Karwar-Yeshwantpur service leaves Mangaluru Junction at 11.10 a.m. and reaches Yeshwantpur via Arsikere at 10 p.m. on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
Thus, passengers would get a day train facility on six days a week, SWR’s proposal says.
Kukke Shree Subrahmanya-Mangalore Railway Commuters’ Forum organiser Sudarshan Puttur thanked MP Nalin Kumar Kateel and the SWR for considering the forum’s suggestion to route Kudla Express via the newly opened line.
Bengaluru-Hassan services
The zone has also proposed to run an intercity express and a DEMU (diesel electric multiple unit) passenger between Hassan and Yeshwantpur.
The Hassan-Yeshwantpur Intercity will leave Hassan at 6.15 a.m. and reach Yeshwantpur at 9 a.m. In the return journey, the train will leave Yeshwantpur at 6.15 p.m. and reach Hassan at 9 p.m.
The express trains will halt at Chikkabanawara, Nelamangala, Kunigal, Yediyur, BG Nagar, Shravanabelagola and Channarayapatna.
The DEMU passenger service will leave Yeshwantpur at 7.30 a.m. and reach Hassan at 10.30 a.m. The Hassan-Yeshwantpur DEMU will leave Hassan at noon and reach Yeshwantpur at 3.30 p.m., halting at all stations en route.

BENGALURU: The exact date for the opening of the new railway line between Nelamangala and Sharavanabelagola is yet to be finalised. A proposal to open the line via video link from New Delhi on March 9 by Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu was shelved as Chief Minister Siddaramaiah conveyed his inability to take part in the inaugural function at Yeswanthpur. The upcoming state budget was cited as the reason.
The Commissioner of Railway Safety had given the green signal for commencing operations along the 111-km line, part of the Bengaluru-Hassan project, on February 21. Sources said that former Prime Minister Deve Gowda was keen on Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurating it. However, that did not materialise.(see box). Meanwhile, it was decided that Suresh
Prabhu will inaugurate it in the presence of Deve Gowda, who had announced the project when he was Prime Minister during 1996-1997.
It was a frantic week at the Railways last week when they were told to get ready to commence running of trains on March 9. “Station masters, pointsmen and ticket booking staff were posted along the 11 stations enroute and everything was in place to ensure that trains can be run on the route,” said a top railway official.
“The CM wrote to the Railway Ministry conveying his inability to take part in the inauguration due to the upcoming budget and has asked for an inaugural date after March 15,” said E Vijaya, Deputy General Manager, South Western Railways, Hubballi.
Ashok Gupta, Chief Administrative Officer, Constructions, SWR, said, “Both the Railways and the state government are equally sharing the cost of the new line (`1,289 crore).”
When commissioned, it will take an Express train just 10.5 hours to cover the distance between Bengaluru and Mangaluru, about 90 minutes shorter than the present shortest route

The new trains between Bengaluru City and Mangaluru Central, announced in the Railway Budget-2014, will be operational by March 31, Indian Railways has told the Karnataka High Court.
A submission in this regard was made by the Railways to a Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Subhro Kamal Mukherjee and Justice Budihal R.B. during the hearing of a PIL petition filed by Railway Yatri Sangha, Udupi.
“The Railway administration has decided to introduce a train between Bengaluru City and Mangaluru Central before the end of this financial year, that is March 31, 2017,” the
counsel said. The Bench adjourned further hearing on the case till April 17.
The petitioner, in the PIL filed in 2015, had pointed out that the then Railway Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda had announced introduction of a new pair of trains, bearing numbers 16515 and 16516, between Bengaluru and Mangaluru, but the promise was yet to become a reality.

Electric trains to start from Bengaluru to Mysuru in 3 months
Trains between Chennai and Mysuru via Bengaluru will go green from June with electrification work between Mandya and Mysuru stations set to be completed in three months.
Bengaluru Divisional Railway Manager Sanjiv Agarwal told DH that completion of electrification work will also cut travel time of Shatabdi Express by around 10 to 15 minutes. The present travel time by Shatabdi Express from Chennai to Mysuru is seven hours.
present, the train runs on electric traction between Chennai and Bengaluru. The electric locomotive is detached in Bengaluru to be replaced by a diesel locomotive. The electrification of the entire stretch will eliminate this process and save time,” he added.
However, long distance trains running to Mysuru from other places will continue with the diesel locomotive. “Changing locomotives at Bengaluru station is time consuming. Besides, we do not have spare electric locomotives to move other trains,” he said.
The senior official, however, said electric locomotives will dominate the future of railways. “It will start with trains originating in Bengaluru and Chennai stations to destinations with electrified tracks. Electrification has been sanctioned in all the directions from Bengaluru, including Tumakuru and Hosur sections. Work on Dharmavaram section is already over,” he added.
MEMU to Mandya
Agarwal said the mainline electric multiple unit (MEMU) train between Bengaluru and Ramanagaram will be extended to Mandya. He, however, said talks were on and the date is yet to be finalised.
SWR officials said electrification work till Mandya will be completed within a month. “The remaining work for the track from Yeliyur to Mysuru (about 40 km) will be done by June,” an official added.
Low patronage
The Shatabdi fare was reduced from Rs 438 to Rs 300 in December. Even on other trains, the 3-AC fare was brought on par with the AC chair car fare. “Despite these measures, travellers who prefer comfort are not taking trains, though they are faster and more comfortable compared to road transport,” SWR Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Sridhar Murthy added.
