what is SWR doing with this train? most of the days it gets so late after entering SWR territory. today it was late by more than 2 hours for reaching BAND, on saturday 3 hours!
ridiculous! and all the delays happen from DPJ

single line and clash with another train in the opposite direction can account for a 10-15 minute delay. the train is regularly late by about an hour while reachine BAND. it is just lazy signal management. im guessing they have very few signals on this route thus making it necessary for huge gaps between trains.
you cant justify a 2 hour delay by quoting another train. 12677 was always running before too.

train is getting late from DPJ itself. so 12863 has nothing to do with it. yes, from HSRA delays could be due to 12683 and 12677 but that too cant justify delays of approximately 1 hour every day at BAND

The Railways is working on an idea that, if implemented, would significantly increase the passenger carrying capacity of a few short-distance trains, but at the same time make the overnight travel more like a bus journey.
Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu has suggested the Railway Board to replace non-AC sleeper coaches of busy trains with reserved chair cars, so that more people could be adjusted in overnight journeys of up to 10 hours. Prabhu has also pressed for more double-decker trains in shorter routes.
The Railway Board is currently determining feasibility of the idea.

“In summer and during festive seasons, the Railways faces a lot of flak for the crowd and its inability to carry them,” a note from Prabhu said. “For overnight journeys or journeys for less than 10 hours, the Railways may put chair cars instead of sleeper cars,” it said.
There is justification for the idea too. “As the energy consumption to produce a rail passenger-km is about twice that needed for freight, because passenger trains travel at higher speeds (energy increases exponentially with increasing speed) and because passenger trains tend to be less heavily loaded…Passenger traffic represents only 28.5 per cent of rail output, but somewhat over 44 per cent of rail energy use. So, we may use chair cars in passenger trains and double-deckers in short distance trains,” said the note.
Sources said routes like Delhi-Jammu, Delhi-Lucknow, Delhi-Varanasi or even Delhi-Patna during summer or festive rush would be serviced better if the idea fructifies.
Officials, however, said there are multiple glitches in the idea. A reserved chair car (non-AC) has 108 seats as against 80 seats in modern non-AC sleeper coaches. So, a seating-only coach might carry 28 more passengers, but the ticket cost would also come down.
For instance, a sleeper class ticket from Delhi to Lucknow fetches the Railways around Rs 285. For the same journey, a reserved seating ticket, known as “2S”, costs Rs 185. Even after carrying more people, the difference in earning from each coach would over Rs 2000.
Another problem is the availability of coaches. At present, Railways has around 2,676 non-AC reserved-seating-only coaches. Usually, long distance trains do not have these coaches and to service short distances, almost all these coaches are already in service.

these are all silly ways to solve problems.
first thing to be done is to make all busy trains run with 24 coaches. still many trains have only <20. secondly, railways need to run more trains on peak days and peak times. currently, new trains are added just for the sake of adding a new train without thinking. there are way too many trains running empty.
instead of inconveniencing passengers by coming up with silly solutions, it is time to replan all non-occupied trains

major cities of less than 500km should have trains like bhopal shatabdi connecting them. before making bullet trains, we need to have major cities connected by trains that travel at 80-100 kmph.

it is just a lazy signalling job by the railways that delays most trains. this one especially waits at inbetween stations for too long. the other ypr-pdy train has it worse

but if they can make the trains run at average of 60kmph, it will still be useful. train will take about 3.5 hours. that will be better than bus in most situations.
sadly the railways almost never care about short distance travellers. all short distance trains are terribly slow

hmm. i think you mean WDM. the last letter here 'M' means mixed(both goods and passenger). 'G' would mean goods. the regular passenger diesel engine is WDM-3A
anyway just technicalities. its the standard diesel engine. ill be returning on saturday from kjm. so ill check what loco it is again
