I was travelling by 12846 BNC-BBS SF Express, on 26/10/2010 form YPR to BBS (then the train originated from YPR instead of BNC). It was an exceptional experience as on that day several wrong things happened that particular day with our train.
1) It's regular LOCO failed at YPR itself and thus the train departed an hour late with an offlink WAG-5 in lead.
2) At Nellore, it was made to stand for an hour, just to let Sanghamitra Express overtake it and thus was delayed by 2 hours.

However, it had recovered all the delay by the next day and was only delayed by 10-15 minutes while departing BAM, but upon reaching Balugaon(BALU), our train was detained there for more than 4 hours. The reason was that the LOCO of a passenger running ahead of us failed before reaching any station and thus all the traffic on the busy MAS-HWH mainline came to a standstill until that passenger moved.

There are many trains having such kind of repeated reversals.
For example, 12880/79,22865/66,18473/74,18507/08 etc.
These LRs are not a very big deal to worry about, a train runs to fulfill the demands of passengers and in this case, Patna does not have any good connection to Hyderabad/Secunderabad and the route itself is relatively new and unpopular, that's why I chose this unique route for my train.

Agree, but the Reversals are happening in a short interval itself ... I think Via Koderma, Hazaribag, Ranchi, Rourkela will be a better route choice for this train.

Chair-car type train is very much required on the route. Super success of JS gives a clear indication for more demand. This train shall act complementary to JS, so desirable. Hence a green flag.

During British rule, Capital/ head quarters, where the British Officials resided was every thing to Govt. and other population centers had very little importance. The same mentality of giving unduly high importance to HQ/Capital is still continuing with present day Govt and also amongst the Indian citizens to some extent.
Concept of Rajdhani Express was introduced in (NDLS-HWH) 1969 as a strictly overnight premium train and second Raj i.e. NDLS-BCT was introduced in 1972. At that time there was no ACIII class; berths in ACII & ACI were prohibitively costly to even upper middle classes and Raj was a meant for politicians, bureaucrats & rich class. for overnight journey. Upper middle class normally used to occupy these ACC in order to enjoy these privileged trains. I still remember my childhood sight of Mumbai Raj for the first time from fields at outskirts of Bhayandar, which was probably biweekly and had only 9 or 10 coaches in may'79.
So historically, Rajdhanis were involved with only top 3 cities of India. Chennai was excluded as ACC journey from NDLS-MAS is not practical.
Today scene has totally changed. Reasons are advent of ACIII, increased purchasing power of people and lesser increase in the cost of ac travel than general inflation. More over, Tier2 & tier3 cities had grown up financially as well as demographically.
Literal meaning of Rajdhani should not be given undue importance. Rajdhani is just a premium class of train which is given high priority during its run and should be meant to run between destinations where it can earn enough passenger response/ revenue. Why it should be limited to Delhi only? is is meant only for the MPs/ MLA etc only who travel free or for the public also who pay and travel? Today around 100 Rajdhani trains can be introduced without having Delhi as one of terminal destination.
Once the upgradation of track to 130kmph+ speeds expands, we can see Rajdhanis (or Rajdhani type trains) with 80kmph+ avg. speed proliferate through out the length and breadth of IR network.

You have to add KSNG (Kesinga),TIG (Titlagarh Jn), BLGR (Bolangir), BRGA (Bargarh Road), SBP(Sambalpur Jn).....These stations can't be skipped)

That is a tough call, actually. Mandore should be suitable but it has midnight arrival at Alwar. Also, in case BBS Raj does not get so delayed, you will curse me while spending your whole day at Delhi :P
Double Decker can also be considered. I do not expect Rajdhani to be so late during December such as to reach New Delhi after 16:00. This happens but during January or very late December.

Although the connection being safe or unsafe is subject to fog conditions, the following facts remain constant nevertheless.
1) Both the trains are fog affected in December.
2) Bhubaneswar Rajdhani is almost never rescheduled from source. The only delay is what it gains up on the way.
3) Ashram from Delhi is often rescheduled in winters depending on status of incoming rake.

4) Travel in Ashram isn't recommended in the non-AC classes owing to mad rush of unauthorized daily passengers.
5) Tickets in Ashram are likely to be confirmed even at the last moment.
6) Reserve an hour for New Delhi to Old Delhi transit on any given day.

If Traveling via Delhi is your choice, keep a wider changeover time during winters!
AWR is just about 2.5-3 hours away from Delhi, so if BBS Raj is your train to Delhi take a night train, Mandore, Yoga Exp, RJSK etc (if you don't have any problems arriving at odd hours).
BBS Duronto - Mandore is also one chain which gives you enough buffer (hopefully)
