Ans. Many a times the passengers who have purchased RAC or WL tickets are always in dilemma to know that whether their RAC and WL position has improved or not. So now Indian Railways have launched certain helpful services that will assist such people to find whether or not their RAC or WL position has improved. They can assess this information from their home itself and will not have to run to any other place.

Indian Railways has their online PNR enquiry website service that provides several information including the information on the status of your RAC or WL position. All you need to have is an access to the internet. With just a simple click of the mouse you can obtain the required information from your home itself. When you visit the official online PNR enquiry website of the Indian Railways (www.indianrail.gov.in/pnr_stat.html) you need to enter your PNR number. Immediately the status of your RAC or WL position will be displayed to you. The website service is available between 04:00 hrs - 23:30 hrs as per the IST (09:30 hrs - 05:00 hrs as per GMT)
*Telephone service
A passenger can also dial 139, from anywhere in Indian, to get the required information on the improved status of the RAC and WL position.
*PNR machines
Most of the big railways stations are equipped with PNR machines. One can also use these machines to get the necessary information.
While checking always remember that the 2nd number on the RAC and WL ticket is your new position, whereas CNF refers to confirmed reservation.
