Please go to a PRS 24 hours prior to the starting time of the train from source. Carry ID card in case of E Ticket. Give an application to change the boarding. You can change the boarding point to any station which falls between your destination. The rule says it has to be done from the station where the ticket is purchased from, but I have done it at other stations and for internet booked tickets it can be done at any PRS. The rule as it is mentioned in indianrail is:
A specific request must be made in writing at the station from where the ticket is purchased and reservation made atleast 24 hours before the scheduled departure of the train
...
from the starting station.
The Railway Administration reserves the right to use such accommodation from the originating station up to the station at which the passenger is due to entrain.
No refund will be permissible for the portion of journey not performed by the passenger.

Nazeer Bhai
whether it is an E tkt or PRS tkt - copy of id card is must for change of boarding point. Reason behind this is not to identify the travelling people. i too can go 4 change of boarding point for your ticket by producing your id card. So establishing id is not important here.
They are asking this as a proof of changing of boarding point by a bonafide or genuine passenger. i too can have someone's PNR and fill up a requisition form for change of boarding where as

original passenger does not want to change the boarding.
To avoid this type of situation, they want xerox of ID card of passenger for their records. b;coz getting PNR not so tough but getting Passenger id card is not easy...

If you have reservation from Purulia, you can board it at Bokaro Steel City, because there are too many stations between Purulia and Parasnath. The TTE usually waits till only the next station.

Purulia has a different quota, so if you get it changed, you wont get the ticket confirmed. Thats the whole point of getting the ticket dome from Purulia.

I have done it many times. It is very much possible. For example I book from CTC in 12703 which is last station in HWH quota and then updated boarding to BBS.

Note that to get quota benefit, you need to book the ticket first and later update the boarding.
If you try to update the boarding while booking (both at PRS and internet), it will give you the quota which is applicable to boarding point and not the original source.
