In a bid to boost infrastructure, the Indian Railways will raise Rs 35,000 crore with the assistance of World market which would generate separate fund for investment in the railway sector, reported a national news agency on Friday.

The proposed fund is intended for all major ticket rail-based projects such as port connectivity, freight terminal upgradations and rail expansion in PPP model.

Reportedly, the Railways of India Development Fund (RIDF) will be separate from the rail budget.

The national transporter will seek a Cabinet approval for setting up of the RIDF in next month and the World Bank is understood to have given its in-principle nod for creation of the fund, it also reported.

Light Metro office in Kozhikode, high speed rail line office in capital
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) will wind up by May 31 its office in the capital that handles the proposed 430-km high speed railway line between Kochuveli and Kannur and the office in Kozhikode that looks after Light Metro.
The DMRC will now have only two offices in the State – one in Thiruvananthapuram to take care of the proposed Light Metro and the one in Ernakulam for the Kochi Metro Rail.
The

move comes in the wake of the submission of the Detailed Project Report for the high-speed line by the DMRC to the government. The project is estimated to cost ₹1,27,849 crore as per the report.
Three personnel were working in the office that handles the HSR.
No further steps
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan stated in the Assembly this week that the government had not taken any further steps on the project. The DMRC was not happy with the way the project was handled after the report was submitted.
Kerala High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (KHSRCL), the public limited company floated to execute the project, undertook a public survey and found that majority favoured the rail line. The survey was the only initiative to be taken up after the DPR was submitted.
Kozhikode office
The DMRC’s office opened in Kozhikode for the proposed Light Metro will also be closed by month end. The road overbridge at Panniyankara, constructed under the supervision of the DMRC as part of Light Metro, has been commissioned.
As the Light Metro projects for Kozhikode and Thiruvanathapuram are yet to get approval from the Union government, officials in the DMRC office at Kozhikode were assigned with the task of preparing the feasibility report of the Nilambur-Nanjangud and Thalassery-Mysuru railway line.
The DMRC was not keen on these two projects following the issues with the government over payment of fee.
Of the six personnel in the DMRC office at Kozhikode, two will be redeployed to the Ernakulam office.

Train halted a little away from Trinity Church station
In the second such incident in less than a week, Namma Metro services on the Purple Line were affected for around 10-12 minutes on Friday around noon after power supply to the train was disrupted.
According to a passenger, the train halted just a little distance away from Trinity Church station.
“The air-conditioner stopped working

and the doors would not open. After about 10 minutes, the train started moving again and I got down at Cubbon Park,” said Rashmi N, a resident of Indiranagar.
Officials said that there was a fault with the train which led to the delay. “No passengers were stranded. There was a 10-minute period when the train was stationary after which it subsequently reached normal speed. The delay to subsequent schedules was around 10 minutes for which we operated additional trains,” said a senior BMRCL official.
However, according to passengers, the power cut affected operations for much longer.
“I was at the Cubbon Park station around 2 p.m. and although trains were operating, the timing display boards were off and there was an announcement about some issue with the line,” said Sujeesh M., a student.
On May 20, there was an electrical fault at the S.V. Road station and trains between Baiyappanahalli to MG Road had to be halted around 9.30 p.m.
Services were restored on one line around 10.15 p.m., after which additional trains were operated past Namma Metro’s closing hours to transport passengers who were waiting at the stations on the track.
Currently, the Green Line of Namma Metro is undergoing a safety inspection by the Commissioner for Railway Safety.
The line, which is expected to start operations by June, will complete the Phase 1 network of around 42 kilometres.

Like earlier, citizens faced a tough time due to inundation of roads
Power supply was interrupted, traffic descended into chaos and fallen trees blocked major roads, as torrential rain lashed the city on Friday evening.

was reported from Corporation Circle, Mehkri Circle, M.G. Road, Nrupathunga Road and Basaveshwaranagar among other places.
A tree fell on Double Road in Shantinagar effectively halted vehicular movement while a fallen tree blocked traffic at the Ashoka Pillar in Jayanagar. Motorists on Sankey Road too had a tough time as the roads were flooded with water.
At K.R. Circle, a car was stuck after the underpass was inundated. Traffic police personnel shifted the car out and later closed the route.
Officials in the BBMP control room said a Storm Water Drain overflowed at Hosakerehalli causing flooding of roads. A driver of a vehicle had to be pulled out to safety.
At least three families reported that their homes were flooded.
Meanwhile, Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (Bescom) reported that more than 6,000 complaints were received while nine electric poles were damaged during the rains. Power supply was cut off in most parts of the city.
Citizens complained that it was difficult to reach both Bescom and BBMP control rooms.

The South Western Railway has named the newly introduced Hubballi-Mysuru train (number 17325/17326) that runs via Bengaluru as 'Vishwamanava Express’.
The name was suggested by journalist Krishna Prasad, who explained the christening of the train in his blog. "(Mysuru MP) Pratap Simha had called for suggestions. His own picks were Kapila Express (after the river which supplies much of Mysuru’s drinking water), Nalwadi Express (after Maharaja Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wodeyar), and Ambari Express (after Dasara motif),” he wrote.
Though they considered the name 'Mysore Mallige Express’, they abandoned it "because some punster might call

it 'Mysore Mellage’ if the train runs late”.
"Eventually, we went literary and zeroed in on 'Vishwa Manava Express’,” Prasad wrote.
"Vishwa Manava’ was the idea espoused by Kuvempu which he explains in an essay: "Every child, at birth, is the universal man. But, as it grows, we turn it into a 'petty man’ (through caste, creed, religion and race). It should be the function of education to turn it into the original 'universal man’.”
The South Western Railway has decided to temporarily augment with one second class sleeper coach for train no. 82653 Yeshwantpur-Jaipur Suvidha Weekly Express with effect from June 22 to September 21 and train no. 82654 Jaipur-Yeshwantpur Suvidha Weekly Express with effect from June 24 to September 23.
Train no. 82653/82654 Yeshwantpur-Jaipur-Yeshwantpur Suvidha Weekly Express will have the revised composition of two AC 2-tier coaches, four AC 3-tier coaches, 10 second class sleeper coaches, one pantry car and two luggage-cum-brake van with generator.
South Western Railway will also permanently augment with one AC-3 tier coach for Train No. 17323 Hubballi-Varanasi Weekly Express with effect from June 2 and 17323 Varanasi-Hubballi Weekly Express with effect from June 4.
Train No. 17323/17324 Hubballi-Varanasi-Hubballi Weekly Express will have the revised composition of one AC 2-tier coach, two AC 3-tier coaches, six second class sleeper coaches, six general Second class coaches, two second class luggage-cum-brake van with disabled friendly compartment.

KOLKATA: The toy train service linking New Jalpaiguri (NJP) with the 'queen of hills' — that was re-introduced last year after a five-year gap — will turn daily from May 28. So far, the train ran just thrice a week.
The daily ride will help thousands of tourists, who had been flocking to Darjeeling over the last two weeks. According to tourism industry, this summer Darjeeling witnessed thrice the number of tourists than that of 2016 summer, which resulted in a major transport crisis. Almost all hotels are booked till June 7.
"So,

the toy train service comes at the right time. It takes a longer time than the road journey, but has its own unique charm. More importantly, it will help tourists reach the Hills without solely depending on taxis," said Raj Basu, a tourism expert who runs Association for Conservation and Tourism (ACT), a body that organizes trips to north Bengal and the Hills.
Maintenance of tracks and rakes has been a major challenge for the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, which runs the service. This had led to the suspension of the NJP-Darjeeling journey in 2012, following which Unesco declared that it will be struck off the heritage list unless efforts were made to resume the service.
While three rakes are operated for the joy rides, two more will be pressed into service for the NJP-Darjeeling trip.
