Analysis of the table reveals that:
Best Suburban system in IR is WR locals of Mumbai which carry about 30% of total suburban paxs and contribute only 4-6% to the losses. Next best is CR which carry about 35% of total suburban paxs and contribute only 20-22% of losses. Mumbai suburban carries about 65% of total suburban traffic and cause 24-28 % of losses. Non Mumbai suburban locals about 35% of paxs (roughly half in number) give about 70% of total losses!

suburban (ER+SER) is maximum loss maker and contributes of 55 % of total losses of IR. With just 20-25% of total suburban traffic, traffic they give 55% losses. Loss per pax of Kolkata Local is very high (about 5 times of Mumbai Local). With Metro Rail Kolkata giving another 5-8% of total losses, over 60% of total suburban losses of IR are given by the Metropolitan area of Kolkata.

Secunderabad- local losses 1-1.5% (very low traffic)
