TLGP Honnavara has some scope as the forest land lost will be less.. They can plan for an underground for some distance
If the project is consuming too much of wildlife and forestland, it should be scrapped IMMEDIATELY. Western ghats and the NE himalayan range are the only biodiversity hotspots remaining in India.
There are many projects sanctioned in Himalyan range like Rishikesh - Karnaprayag, connecting Kashmir with Jammu and ROI, many projects on NE part of country to connect seven states to rail network. Only KA is unlucky in this case w.r.t western ghats, whereas in the same western ghats got two new rail projects sanctioned in MH, Karad - Chiplun and Kolhapur - Vaibahwadi
western ghats is like an albatross around the neck of Karnataka.
cursed ghats at Shirdi, Braganza and now this. very less distance in forest area if the entire length is considered.
honnavara-talaguppa passes thru forest area. that 70 odd kms line wont materialise too.
this line atleast they can construct till Yellapura. and the talaguppa line can be extended to Sirsi. there was talk...

If talguppa line goes towards siddapura/sirsi then definitely it will join bit more ahead to yellapura, which is part of hubballi-ankola line(non forest area).
So at-least if we not get line through western ghats, this will work to connect Shivamogga-Sagara-Talguppa-Sirsi-Yellapura-Hubbal li.
