Jayram was a heavy vehicle driver for Jagdamba company. They had all disembarked the South Bihar Express at Gamharia station and were crossing the railway tracks towards Basconagar to catch an auto when the accident occurred. It is reported that the four were acquainted, hence traveling together. The incident happened when they were crossing the down line, 100 meters from platform number 4 at Gamharia. The Utkal Express was traveling from Rishikesh to Puri. Upon receiving the news of the accident, the AR, railway SP, and other railway and police officers arrived. A relief train was also dispatched, after which the bodies were taken to Tatanagar railway station and subsequently to the mortuary for post-mortem.
