The South Western Railway is exploring options to relocate or build an underground passage for the railway line near Mysore Airport. This is because the existing railway line hinders the expansion of the airport runway. The runway needs to be extended to 2,750 meters from the current 1,740 meters, but the...

railway line poses a safety risk due to interference with airport operations. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and the Airports Authority of India (AAI) have restricted the installation of overhead power cables due to this interference. The AAI has expressed concerns about the potential impact on aircraft radar and Instrument Landing System (ILS) operations. Former MP Prathap Simha suggested induction shielding as a solution to minimize interference, but if that proves impractical, he proposes realigning the railway track. Induction shielding technology has been successfully implemented in Chennai and Delhi airports. The survey for the relocation or underground passage is estimated to cost Rs. 21.99 lakh and is expected to be completed within 45 days.

Mysore Chamarajanagar railway line passes beside the airport runway area. As long as both co-exists, neither airport can be expanded nor railway line can be doubled or electrified.

Mysore airport has technical issues with SWR line passing nearby.
Two scenarios possible:
1. If Bangalore's new 2nd airport is getting located in and around Ramanagara on Bangalore Mysore road, Mysore airport will lose it's importance.
2. If Hejjala CMNR line comes through along with extension to Mettupalayam/ Sathy, then doubling is needed.
