Yeah 3 KVs (Kendriya Vidyalaya) are here at Patiala, 2 under the defense area and 1 under the DLMW, in which I studied in KV DLMW... :)

Completely agree !! Railways had been ignoring Patiala thinking its a small town, now in the recent news , Patiala Station earned 200cr, which was maximum earnings in 2014-15 in the entire Ambala Division and the station was awarded recently. We just have 22 passenger trains up and down in a day at the max, but freights are the king here with daily freight traffic is of around 40-50 per day.
And I am sure, there would be hardly any student(s), specially from Engg stream, who might not have heard of Thapar University at Patiala.

Thapar for Engineering, Rajiv Gandhi National Law University for Law and Netaji Subhas National Institute of Sports for sports. These three institution are famous through out India. Students of these institutions have to face problem while traveling because of poor rail connectivity.
.
Frights are more because, it is considered as short and uncontested route to reach interior areas of Punjab and Rajasthan as well, from the Northern part of India; but same could be considered to increase the passenger trains.

Because of this poor rail connectivity, people have/had started travelling by their own means of transport, i.e. cars, jeeps SUVs etc. There are more cars in Patiala than in Chandigarh or Ludhiana as per population ratio. The only hard luck this city has , is that its NOT falling on the mainline route of NDLS-ASR or JAT, but the main line is merely 22 kms from here. FYI : residents of Kurukshetra and Kaithal have been demanding a direct connectivity to Patiala, even a survey was done for the said line in 2009, during Mamta Banerjee's time. But, RB didn't approve of it. Saman residents have also been demanding a link from Patiala-Samana-Jakhal , which is again long pending, and shall open doors of revenue for IR if the new line is laid. But, RB is not giving it a nod despite of the fact they know the potential of it....

The interiors of Punjab and Haryana are not connected or are poorly managed by IR. Punjab and Haryana are known as rice bowls of the country and these belts from Patiala-Samana-Jakhal and Kurkshetra-kaithal -Patiala are main, and are thoroughly been ignored. IR is not even throwing some light in existing route (DUI-PTA-RPJ), how can we expect a new line from here to Jakhal/Kurukshetra... :(
