De-compost Machine installed at Kacheguda Railway Station for processing Bio-Waste generated is first of its kind on South Central Railway. The Bio-Waste is collected from Kacheguda Railway station and door to door of railway quarters at Kacheguda Colony in a separate green dust bins. The segregated Bio-Waste is transported to De-compost plant, which will process the garbage and converts it into manure in a week time. It produces high quality organic manure which can be used for gardens, plants etc. The De-compost Machine was procured by Railway at the cost of Rs. 4.5 lakhs. This machine is processing 125 Kgs of Bio waste every day producing 20% of manure (organic) 100 Kgs per week. The plant is expected to save an amount of Rs. 2-3 lakhs per year. The project is eco-friendly saving fuel and producing manure which will increase the soil fertility. It also helps in preventing usage of chemical fertilizers in farming / gardening.
Disposable Water Bottle Crushing Machine:
Plastic waste is posing major threat to the ecosystem as most of the plastic waste is not recycled and the same is affecting the environment. Most of the times these water bottles are reused for drinking purpose which is not a safe practice. Railways have taken steps to combat this problem by installing Bottle Crusher Machines at platforms. Smt. Aruna Singh, Divisional Railway Manager, Hyderabad Division has initiated the project in which the disposable water bottles are crushed in to smaller pieces. Passengers and Railway cleaning workers are making use of this machine to produce 2-3 kgs of plastic waste every day. This plastic is being sold to rag pickers as recycled plastic waste.
