The Nilgiri Mountain Railway (NMR) train services between Coonoor and Mettupalayam have been stopped since Monday evening, following a minor landslip near Adderly Railway Station in Coonoor.
Sources said that a rock fell on the railway track near Adderly on Monday, forcing the train from Coonoor, that was heading to Mettupalayam, return to Marapallam. The 190 passengers in the train were transferred to three buses and dropped off at Coimbatore.
On Tuesday, around 30 workers managed to clear the line. Train services between Mettupalayam and Coonoor are expected to resume from Wednesday. Services

KORAPUT: A team of National Investigation Agency (NIA) led by its inspector general Mukesh Singh reached the district headquarters of Rayagada on Sunday to investigate into the derailment of Jagdalpur-Bhubaneswar Hirakhand Express.
As many as 41 persons were killed in the accident which had occurred on the night of January 21 at Kuneru station, 25 km from Rayagada under Vizianagaram district of Andhra Pradesh.
Though a five-member team of the NIA had visited the mishap site on January 23 and inspected the broken tracks and the mangled coaches as the railways had suspected

sabotage, on Friday the Union home ministry issued formal orders for a probe by the NIA into the derailment.
Officials said on January 23, suspecting the possibility of sabotage, railway minister Suresh Prabhu had written to home minister Rajnath Singh seeking a detailed probe by the NIA.
"A 10-member team of the NIA accompanied by government railway police SP Simoshi Bajpai of Andhra Pradesh will probe the incident. Apart from visiting the mishap spot, the team may also interrogate officials concerned," said a senior railway official at Rayagada.
Earlier, during their investigation on January 23, the NIA had interrogated eight railway staffers, including the station manager of Kuneru station.
As the mishap site falls in a Maoist-affected zone and a goods train had passed on the same track just two hours before the accident, the railways suspected foul play.
Requesting anonymity, a senior railway official of Rayagada said though initial probe reveals that there was rail fracture which caused the derailment, the reason behind the fracture is yet to be known.
The NIA is already investigating the role of Pakistan's spy agency Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) behind the November 20, 2016, derailment of Indore-Patna Express in which at least 150 people were killed.
Earlier Odisha DGP K B Singh had dismissed the possibility of Maoist involvement in the mishap saying that there is no indication of the Red hand behind the derailment.

asked to conduct data analysis of investigation into the past accidents and developed a “factual view of potential solutions.” The report submitted recently has categorically stated the failure of railway staff is the biggest cause in 50 to 60 per cent cases, and derailments cause maximum deaths and injuries.
According to the report, asset failures like track defects such as rail fracture and inadequate maintenance remain the biggest cause of accidents. Taking note of increase in number of derailments due to rail-fractures and weld failures, it has suggested a need to address the backlog in rail/track renewals and the technology of rail welding.
Advocating technology upgradation to have less dependence on human intervention, the report said “Inspection of Rails is a complex exercise and must be automated as much as possible to reduce dependence on human judgement.”

Actually the reports are true. The persons who are truly voiceless are the senior officials. The reason is the Union support of respective zones. it was even highlighted in many newspapers that lower cadre staffs dont come on time or dont work properly as they have a huge voice backup. It was once stated that they hardly present for 3 hours a day , not sure about the effective working hours. Even an issue came few months back where lower cadre people blamed DRM that he threatened with a pistol , later in a CCTV it was found that they were rejecting their transfer orders and made a false complaint ,

If they are present only 3 hours of the day, the who does the 7+7 Kms rail line check everyday? Who are those people I see, who walk with torn hawai chappals lugging all those equipments up and down? Those track maintenance guys on Konkan line whose legs bleed due to leeches? These are the lower rung staff who are being blamed for IR's failures, that I talked about.

There are few good apples , we can put in that way . Once in BWT section , even a top brass asked a middle level officer to adjust with them when the lower rung ppl were drunk in duty. The 7+7 kms which u said is less followed now . Thats why contractors are employed now which is again opposed by permanent workers

This is one of the examples which i gave u which throws light on the mentality of many lower rung which you were saying :) , irrespective of departments. PWAY gang men are no different,
What u have seen is 1 or 2 in place instead of 5 or 6 , then do you think quality working happens ? They may be Contract/Permanent , The entire gang has so much to cover than 7+7 u mentioned. So here the effective work done is 1/5th.

A major accident was averted at Karwar on the Konkan Railway route on Sunday morning, when the power car of Train No. 22476, Coimbatore-Bikaner Express, caught fire at Karwar, near the railway station.
According to railway officials, the train was running behind schedule due to line doubling work in neighbouring Dakshina Kannada. The train, which was to reach Karwar station at 2.30am on Sunday, reached at 7.15am.
The driver noticed smoke in the front power car attached to the AC bogey of the train while passing through a tunnel, about 1km from the

railway station. He immediately informed the station master, and the train, which was to stop at Karwar station, moved slowly as it had neared the destination.
On reaching Karwar, passengers were evacuated from the train, and the first three AC bogeys were separated from the engine. No loss of life or property was reported, nor did any passenger suffer any injuries, railway officials said. Fire engines waiting at the station brought the fire under control.
Railway officials said it was a minor incident and an inquiry has been ordered.
The passengers, though, counted themselves lucky that the fire was noticed when the train was close to Karwar station. "It is fortunate that it happened during the day. Had it been happened at night, when the train was running at high speed, the situation could have been different," said a passenger.
Officials said that prima facie, it is not a case of sabotage and the facts will be out only after an inquiry.
The three bogies next to the engine were separated and the train was allowed to continue its journey.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has set up a camp in Kanpur, close to the site where coaches of the Indore-Rajendranagar Express derailed on November 20, as it tries to join the dots in at least three train accidents, claimed to have been orchestrated at the behest of Pakistan’s ISI.
A senior Home Ministry official said the agency would clinically examine the accident site and the mangled coaches, still lying on either side of the tracks, to ascertain if there was any sabotage behind the derailment that killed more than 140 people.
In

all, names of 10 people had surfaced during the probe, an NIA official said.
While two — Dipak Ram and Arun — are said to have been killed, three — Braj Kishore Giri, Mojahir Ansari and Shambhu alias Laddu — are in the custody of the Bihar police. Zubair and Ziyaullah are in the Delhi police’s custody. The other two are Shafi Sheikh, who is said to be in Karachi, and Shamshul Hoda, a Nepalese businessman is said to be in Dubai.
The Home Ministry had asked the NIA to probe the claims made by the three accused arrested by the Bihar police for allegedly planting a powerful bomb packed in a pressure cooker on a track in Ghorasahan of East Champaran district on October 1. The IED was defused by the police. Paswan, one of the accused had told the police that they planted the bomb on the instructions of Pakistan’s ISI.
He also said that the ISI was involved in the Kanpur train accident of November 20 and that he and two others had travelled to the accident site to place the IED.
‘No explosives found’
U.P. DGP Javeed Ahmed had told The Hindu earlier that the claims of the accused could not be corroborated and the preliminary investigation done by the police did not find any trace of explosives on the tracks.
“We are yet to get the custody of Paswan, his sustained interrogation will reveal if it was tall talk or if there is anything substantive in his claims,” said the official.
The NIA will also take into account the report of the Commission of Railway Safety (CRS), which investigates all the major train accidents in the country.
As reported by The Hindu, a preliminary probe had not found any evidence of sabotage and identified ‘carriage and wagon defects’ as the main reason for the accident.
“We have asked the CRS to submit its report. Reports from other accidents are also being collated to examine if there was a pattern in the derailments,” said the official.
Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu had written to Home Minister Rajnath Singh about the possibility of sabotage in at least six train accidents in the last one year.

Preliminary findings rule out subversive act in Kanpur, says Railway Commission
The Commission of Railway Safety (CRS) has not found any evidence of sabotage in the November 20 derailment of the Indore-Rajendranagar Express.
The commission has identified ‘carriage and wagon defects’ as the prime reason for the accident which resulted in the most number of casualties in a train accident in over a decade.

Ministry of Home Affairs had asked the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to probe the accident.
Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu had written to Home Minister Rajnath Singh about the possibility of sabotage in six train accidents, including the derailment of the Patna-bound Indore-Rajendranagar Express near Kanpur on November 20.
While the Bihar police claimed to have arrested a few people who could have been linked to the possible sabotage of the Indore-Rajendranagar Express, Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police Javeed Ahmed told The Hindu earlier this week that there was no evidence on the ground to corroborate the sabotage charge.
The Commissioner of Railway Safety (Eastern Circle), P.K. Acharya, has submitted the preliminary report on the accident to Chief Commissioner of Railway Safety S. Nayak. The CRS is under the administrative control of the Civil Aviation Ministry.
“The report holds overaged coaches, carriage and wagon defects, and wheel alignment issues as the primary reasons behind the derailment. The report, however, does not suspect sabotage,” a CRS official said.
Wheel gauge variations
Four sleeper coaches of the Indore-Rajendranagar Express were badly damaged in the accident near Kanpur. The report mentions that there was a “huge” variation in the wheel gauge of the S1 and S2 coaches causing the derailment, according to the official.
