The introduction of additional passenger services and freight trains on the 55-km ghat section between Sakaleshpur and Subramanya Road for achieving higher productivity was rendered difficult...
On a regular basis, two full trains should run between Mangalore and Bangalore. One via Mysore can leave by 1915 and reach MYS by 0400 and SBC by 0630. Another via Kunigal can leave by 2230 and reach SBC by 0830. It has to be noted that from MAQ, there are no departure after 2220 West coast. So one of the platform can be used for Bangalore train.
Though there are no trains but platforms are used to park trains which leaves early next morning i.e 3rd Platform will be occupied by Calicut Passenger and Madgaon Passenger. So only two platforms remain in which one will be occupied by WestCoast and other will be Occupied by Vivek Express on Saturdays and even on Mondays there is Arrival of Navyug Express at 22:45 which reaches early in some case*. So chances of introduction of new train is less and even Southern Railway doesn't allow trains to originate from Mangalore Central telling non availability of platforms. So they are up to build two new platforms.
