Indian Railways is working on a lease agreement to operate the light-weight, energy efficient Spanish Talgo trains on short routes such as Delhi-Amritsar, Delhi-Lucknow, Bengaluru-Chennai or Mumbai-Ahmedabad on a profit-sharing basis.
While finance minister Arun Jaitley is expected to announce the plan in his upcoming budget speech, the specifics are likely to be formalised by February-end, when Talgo CEO Jose Maria Oriol visits India, sources said.
The Talgo plan fits in with the NDA government’s intent to ramp up average speeds of Mail and Express trains from the existing 65 kmph to 100
Report is silent on the leasing cost of train ans consequently fares of the Talgo trains as compared to Shatabdi/Raj fares. Given the cost sensitive traffic on IR, the economics should be studied and reported.
Gujarat government will sign an MoU worth Rs 67,000 crore for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet train project
Gujarat government will bear 25% of the total project cost
The Bullet train project has an estimated total cost of Rs 97,000 crore
Success of MUM-AHM HST depends on many factors, some are with in the control of IR/Govt and many are out of control.
Govt/IR need to manage it in a better way and try to replicate the Japanese Shinkanshen Model which is financially performing best among all the HSTs including the rich European countries like France, Germany, Italy, Spain, GB etc.
Your analysis is correct in this regard..
Bombay-Surat-Ahmedabad is the best ecozone of our country, I have high hopes that HSC will ultimately be a success, despite all political blunders as usuall..
In a move that will take Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s dream project of a Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train a step closer to reality, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has agreed to give land at the Bandra-Kurla Complex for the first terminus.
A senior bureaucrat, who requested anonymity, said that in a meeting earlier this week, Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis ordered the MMRDA to allot 40,000 sq metres land for the purpose.
Earlier, MMRDA had opposed the proposal as it wanted to use the land for the proposed International Financial Services Centre
BKC as first station of Bullet train is very important decision with very long term implications which otherwisw may have seriously affected the patronage as well as viability of the whole project. BKC is a locality which matches the high end project. Other option (near LTT) could have been a dampener for the ADI bound travellers to opt for HST instead of airlines.
Obstacles are gradually and continually being removed and HST project appears to be moving ahead firmly if not very fastly.
