Akhil Bharatheeya Grahak Panchayath, an all India consumer movement, has demanded running of a day time train between Salem and Chennai through Attur and Virudhachalam.
A petition submitted to the Divisional Railway Manager Sujatha Jayaraj said that in spite of the division being six years old and receiving many performance awards, day time connectivity from Salem with major cities across the State continues to worry passengers.
The petition wanted a daytime chair-car train facility to Chennai, extension of Jolarpettai — Erode passenger train to Trichy and also separate counter for issue of platform
tickets in the junction.
The petition also said that many passengers in the Chennai — Salem Express (Train No. 11063) that arrives at the junction at 6.30 a.m. are from Rasipuram and Namakkal.
Since the Salem — Karur passenger train departs at 6 a.m. the passengers could not catch the train and hence wanted the Salem — Karur passenger train to depart at 7 a.m.
The petition also sought stoppage of Salem — Yesvantpur train at Salem Town station so that more passengers could benefit.
