BADARPUR, Oct 21 - The Central Government has given the green signal to the Karimganj-Mahisashan-Kolkata Railway service via Bangladesh, which was a very old demand of Karimganj MP Radheshyam Biswas.
Biswas said that besides raising questions in Parliament on the issue, he also wrote letters to the Railway Ministry, mentioning the logic behind the demand. In an exclusive interview to ANN Service from Badarpur, explaining the logical reason behind the Karimganj-Kolkata Railway service, via Bangladesh, Biswas said, “It was my dream for a long time to have a train service from Karimganj-Mahisashan border to Kolkata, via Aakhaura of Bangladesh, as much time will be reduced. According to my view, to go to Kolkata, we have to travel 1,100 km by road, but

if we go to Kolkata from Mahisashan, via Aakhaura of Bangladesh, then approximately 600 km distance will be easily reduced. I mentioned this in my letter addressed to Ministry of Railways. In the letter, I earnestly requested to the Railway Ministry to sanction sufficient funds for this purpose, and in this connection, the Union Ministry has given the green signal. The Centre has decided to give loans at a cheap rate to the Hasina Government in Bangladesh to set up a broad gauge line in Bangladesh, which was gladly accepted by the latter for implementing this railway project speedily”. Replying to another question, Radheshyam Biswas said, it will be a epoch-making instant, if this railway service gets going.
Replying to another question, Biswas informed that in the ensuing session, he will raise the issue of declaration of Badarpur Rail Division immediately.

BADARPUR, Sept 14 - The reported decision of the Railway Ministry to set up the rail division at Silchar instead of Badarpur has evoked strong reactions in this railway town.
Last year also Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu had said that the new Railway Division will be set up at Silchar, and not Badarpur. His announcement then also was strongly condemned by all sections of people of Badarpur, various political parties like the Congress, BJP, Socialist Party, SUCI, CPM, CPI (M), AIUDF as also the Railway Unions, Railway employees and the members of the Badarpur Rail Division Implementation Demand Committee unanimously.
In

a strongly-worded statement, the general secretary of the Badarpur Rail Division Implementation Demand Committee (BRDIDC), Sukumar Ghosh told this mediaperson that the people of Badarpur will not tolerate the indiscreet decision of the Ministry of Railways as also the recent comments on the subject, as the demand for Badarpur Rail Division has matured into a ‘mass demand’, having been first voiced way back in 1988, from when the movement also began. Sukumar Ghosh very clearly narrated the entire picture of the importance, necessity, reasonableness as well as the logic of the Badarpur Rail Division. He warned that in support of the setting up of a full-fledged Railway Division at Badarpur, the movement will not only continue but will now be more vigorous than earlier.
Ghosh said, “since 1988, our rail division movement has been non-violent. But now, it may change, if the Railways and the Central Government deprive Badarpur of its logical as well as reasonable claim.” Ghosh said that Badarpur is the appropriate, proper and the most suitable place for setting up a full-fledged railway division and there are many reasons for the claim, which are already in the public domain. He also said that Silchar is not at all a suitable place for a rail division. The essential requirements for the rail division are not present at Silchar and it will not be profitable for the Ministry of Railways to purchase vast lands for the purpose.
Ghosh alleged that a group of people along with some politicians of Barak Valley, who don’t want a rail division be set up at Badarpur, are misguiding and misleading the Railway officials and Union Ministers by giving wrong information, regarding Badarpur Rail Division.
Meanwhile, an urgent meeting was also held at Badarpur, under the presidentship of the BRDIDC president, Chandan Sen recently, where all the representatives of the various political parties were present. All the speakers vehemently criticised the decision of the Ministry of Railways, which has not yet been withdrawn. The meeting also sent a memorandum to the Minister of State for Railways, Rajen Gohain, mentioning the reasons in support of a full-fledged railway division at Badarpur.

BADARPUR, July 2 - The Badarpur Rail Division Implementation Demand Committee (BRDIDC) has demanded the setting up of a full-fledged railway division at Badarpur Railway Junction without any further delay. This was demanded by the BRDIDC, in a memorandum submitted to the NF Railway Area Manager of Badarpur Railway Subdivision, which was addressed to the Railway Minister Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu recently.
Submitting the memorandum, the BRDIDC general secretary Sukumar Ghosh, president Chandan Lal Sen, Ashim Mazumder and several other members vehemently criticised the Railway Ministry and the Central Government for not yet taking any decision in regard, which is a very old demand of the people, first voiced way back in 1988. They said that the demand for Badarpur Rail Division has

already become a ‘mass demand ’, and hence, cannot be ignored at all. They said, that all essential elements for a railway junction are available at the Badarpur Railway Junction and so, from this point of view, the Badarpur Railway subdivision must be converted to a railway division. “We are united for the next phase of the struggle”, they threatened.
Immediately after submitting the memorandum, the general secretary of the Badarpur Rail Division Implementation Demand Committee, Sukumar Ghosh, accompanied by the other members of the BRDIDC, while speaking to this correspondent narrated the entire picture, the necessity, reasonableness as well as the logic of the Badarpur Rail Division. Ghosh said that in support of the setting up a full-fledged rail division at Badarpur, the movement will continue and now it will be made more vigorous than earlier. In reply to a question, Ghosh said that since 1988, the movement was non-violent. But now, the contours of the movement may change, if the Railways and the Central Government continue to deprive Badarpur of its due. Programmes like protests, wearing of black badges, leaflet distribution will be taken up within a short period and a very good response is expected from every corner of Badarpur Railway town and the village areas.
Ghosh also said that ‘Badarpur’ is most suitable place for setting up of a full-fledged railway division. There are vast railway lands at Badarpur, and there is proper traffic control. Explaining the latter, he said from Badarpur to NC Hills the distance is 500 km; from Badarpur to Bhairabi: 460 km; from Badarpur to Tripura 510 km; and from Badarpur to Manipur 430 km. Due to these proper traffic controls, ‘Badarpur’ is the only ‘gateway’ to the neighbouring States of Tripura, Manipur, Mizoram and Meghalaya, along with the entire Barak Valley. In these places, the Railway services are being controlled by Badarpur. So, in this connection, if railway communication is set up with Bangladesh in the future, then automatically for geographic reasons, ‘Badarpur’ will be the most suitable place. Ghosh also said that Badarpur Rail Sub-Divisional Head Quarter has the required staff strength and is also economically viable for the purpose of a full-fledged rail division.
The BRDIDC in its memorandum, to the Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu, has mentioned the reasons for the need to set up a rail division at Badarpur. It said that since the British period, this railway junction is controlling and operating the Badarpur Railway Area of Tripura, Manipur, Mizoram, Greater Assam (Railway belt of Cachar, Karimganj, Hailakandi and the Dima Hasao districts) and Bangladesh in times of national and international necessities. Besides railway land lying vacant, uncared, unutilised and unlawfully occupied can be utilised for setting up the rail division at Badarpur. There are service-building facilities and staff-quarter facilities at Badarpur railway junction. Mechanical and signalling management for the complete sub-divisional zone are managed and controlled from this junction. All other infrastructure facilities are also available, the BRDIDC memorandum said.
It was also mentioned that during the opening

BADARPUR, April 30 - “Landslide clearing works are being done on a warfooting in Fiding and several other badly-affected places of the Lumding-Badarpur hill section of the NF Railway”, said the CPRO of the NF Railway Pranab Jyoti Sharma.
Though senior Railway officials, engineers etc., are working day and night to clear the sites, but the work is being obstructed due to heavy torrential rain. Cracks have developed in several places creating difficulties for the staff, Sharma told this correspondent.

NF Railway authority is taking all possible steps and it is expected that train services will resume very shortly. The affected railway tracks, tunnels and bridges are being repaired speedily, he said. Expressing deep concern, some top-level Railway engineers and experts told this correspondent that, “railway tracks never settle strongly on hilly and stony soil. Instead, it is very much essential that there should be ‘land-soil’ under the railway tracks, which help them to get set strongly. Thy added that in the Lumding-Badarpur BG Hill-section, all the railway lines have been set up on hilly-stony soil due to which land slides can devastate these tracks easily. The CRS reports have also mentioned about these troubles.
However, the NF Rly GM, HK Jaggi has assured that traffic on the railway track will be restored soon, with the staff bravely fighting the natural calamity in the hill section.

Agartala, Apr 10, 2016 : If everything falls in right place, BG train service from Agartala would be flagged off by middle of this month, according to sources.
The Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) has already suggested passenger train on the newly built track from Agartala to Badarpur (25 km) could be operated at a speed of 100 km per hour.
Although there has been a speculation of introducing Rajdhani Express from the day one, it is unlikely to happen due to restricted train movement in between Lumding and Badarpur. However, the super-fast

train could be operated from Kumarghat to Agartala section.
According to NFR sources, the newly built track is ready to flag off BG train service and Tripureswari Shakti Express might be the inaugural train from Agartala.
“Reports coming from Railway Board and Maligoan, headquarters of NFR suggests passenger train service could be flagged off by April 15”, said an official of NFR wishing anonymity.
When contacted, Transport Secretary Samarjit Bhowmik tonight said the NFR will have to flag off train service on the newly built track by this month.
Although he was reluctant to reveal any date for flagging off passenger train service, there are reports of introducing train service by mid April.
On being asked about introduction of Rajdhani Express from the day one, he said the state government has already demanded to introduce superfast trains connecting all the major cities- Kolkata, Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore from Agartala. “ Lets see what the Railway Board offer to the people of the state”, he said.
Bhowmik further said he has already demanded running of three pairs of passenger trains on the newly built BG track. As per the demand, one pair trains on the Agartala-Silchar route must while two pair trains on the Agartala-Dharmanagar should be introduced at the earliest.
On the damage of railway track at Panisagar railway station that was reported in Tripura Times’s today’s edition, Bhowmik said, “This kind of crack or mishap does occur as the track has been laid very recently. The NFR will rectify all the shortcomings before running passenger train service”.

AGARTALA, April 1 - If everything falls in right place, the BG train service would be commencing from Agartala by middle of April, according to sources in NF Railway.
However, it all depends on the report of Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) SK Pathak.
Pathak has already completed safety inspection in the 225 km newly-built BG trail track from Agartala to Badarpur. During the five-day inspection, the CRS did not find any major fault in the newly-constructed BG rail track from Agartala to Kumarghat and Kumarghat to Badarpur.
After

completing the inspection, the CRS had himself declared the Agartala-Kumarghat BG track as safe. Sources said, the same was his view after inspecting the Kumarghat-Badarpur section.
“Although there is no major fault in the track, the CRS has identified some loopholes in the track and stations which are needed to be rectified on urgent basis”, said a senior NFR official here on Friday.
He said the train service would begin by second or third week of April.
The State Government has already demanded superfast trains like Rajdhani connecting Agartala with all major cities – Kolkata, Delhi and Mumbai.
Initially, there might not be superfast train from Agartala station but before Durga Puja, the people of the State could get a major bonanza from the Railways, he added.

Prabhu flags off Purvottar Sampark Kranti Express,
says all NE capitals will be in rail map by 2020
Special correspondent
Silchar, Feb 20: It was a dream come true for the people not only of Barak Valley but also of the neighbouring states of Mizoram, Manipur and Tripura, aspiring for long for broad gauge connectivity to the mainland of the country.
Flagging
...
off the Silchar-New Delhi Purvottar Sampark Kranti Express today, Railway minister Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu described the occasion as "historic and remarkable".
Prabhu also inaugurated two freight trains - one to Jirinia (215 km) in western Agartala and another to Jiribam (75 km) in western Manipur --- by remote control from Baradpur railway junction.
Addressing a large gathering at Silchar railway station, Prabhu said, "The aspirations of the people for better connectivity have not been met so far". He admitted that though Assam is on the BG rail map, six other Northeast States have been deprived for long.
"Taking into account the aspirations of the people, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has laid emphasis on railway projects in the region and these have been executed on priority basis. All-out efforts will be made to connect all the capitals of eight States of the Northeast. Work on the projects to link Aizawl, Kohima, Imphal, Shillong and Gangtok will be taken up through a time-bound action plan so that all the capitals of eight NE sister States are on the rail map. We have set a deadline of 2020 to achieve this," Prabhu said.
Appreciating the effort put in by the officials, engineers and other employees, the Union minister said problems which were encountered while executing the projects have been resolved. He said the Northeast with vast natural resources and potentiality ought to be taken forward.
"When I was a minister of Forest and Environment, I had prepared a blueprint for scientific exploitation of bamboo of the region," he said, citing the example of China which, with lesser bamboo resources, could earn a revenue of Rs 12 lakh crore.
"The bamboo available could well be utilized for making various products for sale in the market. The region also has immense floriculture and horticulture potential. But to carry these products to the markets, connectivity is important. There lies the responsibility of the Indian Railways to lay down tracks and provide connectivity," he said.
The weekly Poorvottar Sampark Kranti express will run between New Delhi and Silchar via Guwahati, New Coochbehar and Jalpaiguri in West Bengal.
Earlier on February 1, the Silchar-Sealdah Kanchanjunga Express began operations, meeting a long-standing demand of the people to link southern Assam with the country's mainland.
Southern Assam's Barak Valley was brought on the broad gauge rail map early last year, and a regular passenger train service between Silchar and Guwahati began on November 21 last.
The 210-km Lumding-Silchar gauge conversion project, which was declared a national project in 2004, had been initiated in 1996.
The Lumding-Silchar line is the lifeline for southern Assam, known as Barak Valley, and the mountainous States of Tripura, Manipur and Mizoram. These States are heavily dependent on railway for supply of foodgrain, fertilisers, petroleum products, construction materials and other commodities.
