The Indian Railways is planning to start a roll-on-roll-off (Ro-Ro) service between Kolad and Boisar. The first test run was successfully conducted between the two stations yesterday. A good step taken. I wonder how it took 17 long years for IR to recognise the utility of RORO which was pioneered by KR since 1999 and is in continuous operation since then with the RORO traffic continuously increasing year after year.
IR need to adopt RORO in a big way not just to decongest roads in major cities, but also as a source to earn more revenue, along with saving of money as well as time for truck operators, and also as a step towards environmental protection.
