The spot at Dadar staton where the expansion will be carried out Strip of land which divides the Central Railway and Western Railway parts of Dadar station will be used to lay the two new platforms.Dadar (central), one of Mumbai's busiest local stations, will soon have two more platforms, bringing huge relief to nearly 2.7 lakh commuters who board and disembark trains here every day. will be dedicated to fast trains originating here. The land is currently dotted with 30 low-rise structures housing Central Railway and Western Railway offices. Seventeen of these structures belong to the Central Railway, while the rest are with the Western Railway. The offices in the 17 Central Railway buildings will be moved to a new multi-storeyed structure and the Western Railway has been asked to make its own arrangements. Dadar (central) handles 750 local trains a day, including around 30 trains that originate here and an equal number that terminate their journeys. In addition, 90 long-distance trains stop here, including seven trains that start their journeys here and an equal number that terminate here. The tender for the multi-storied building that will house all Central Railway offices removed from the narrow strip of land was awarded in May 2016. While the relocation will cost Central Railway Rs 28 crore, the construction of new platforms will set it back by Rs 10 crore. While the station currently has six local platforms and two for long-distance trains, the new platforms will take the total number to 10. During the construction of the two new platforms, some of the existing lines will be loved, leading to the widening of platform no. 1, which is currently the narrowest here. Mumbai Mirror in its February 4 edition had reported how a narrow strip of platform no. 1 next to where the foot overbridge lands had become a death trap. Three commuters lost their lives in the past one year while trying to board moving trains from this part of the platform. Divisional Railway Manager, Central Railway, Ravinder Goyal said construction work for the two new platforms has already been approved. The widened platform no. 1, which may be assigned a new number after the changes, will also handle fast trains in its new avatar. The current platform no. 1handles close to 240 slow local services. The new platform no. 1 will have direct access from the west side. A foot overbridge, which under-construction, will connect all Dadar (central) platforms to Tilak Bridge.

News » Mumbai Mumbai to Pune in just 25 minutes at 1,120 kmph? Yes! This may soon become a reality through Hyperloop Mumbai/Pune: Believe it or not but travel time between Mumbai and Pune may be cut down to 25 minutes! Yes.... more...
You read it right. As of now, Mumbai-Pune journey time is about three hours by train but Hyperloop Transportation Technologies has put forth a new proposal before transport ministry. According to this new proposal, travel time between Mumbai and Pune may be reduced to 25 minutes! Hyperloop Hyperloop runs faster than an aircraft at a speed of 1,120 kmph. Hyperloop Transportation Technologies, a Los Angeles-based company, has designed a new way to move people. Hyperloop is a concept where a pod-like vehicle travels through a near-vacuum that's contained within a tube. The firm has asked the transport ministry for land to run a pilot project of its high-speed transportation service. Elon Musk-backed Hyperloop Transportation Technologies (HTT) co-founder Bibop G Gresta on Tuesday said the company is ready to build hyperloop between Mumbai and Pune, but the decision is left with Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari to go ahead with the project. "Gadkari has a proposal to build the hyperloop on his table and he has to take a decision. If he wants to go ahead with it, we are ready, and it will be a feasibility study to begin with to lay line between Bombay (Mumbai) and Pune," he told media in Bengaluru on the sidelines of the Carnegie Global Technology Summit 2016. Asked about the regulatory challenges to build hyperloop in India, Gresta said Gadkari, during the meeting, had expressed the Indian Government's willingness to help the company in this regard. "I had asked Gadkari to help us with regulatory norms. He (Gadkari) said we are willing to do that," he added. Among the prominent cities and countries where the hyperloop will be built are California, Utah, Illinois, Florida, Indianapolis, Canada, Mexico, Chile, Spain, France, Slovakia, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Saudi Arabia, Botswana, South Africa, Russia, China, Malaysia, India, Indonesia and Australia. Gresta said the company has received an investment of over $100 to build hyperloop in these countries and cities around the globe. "We have received over 100 million dollars to build hyperloop in as many as 20 countries," he said. Replying to a query, Gresta said the first hyperloop is expected to be launched in Abu Dhabi.

The trial of Mumbai’s first air-conditioned suburban rake finally began, after weeks of delay, in the early hours of Wednesday. According to railway officials who oversaw the trials, the rake was tested for ‘coherence’ among all its different components. The tests were part of the rake’s static trials which is expected to take two to three weeks. Static tests on the train are being carried out inside the Kurla carshed, said officials. The second phase of trials- dynamic ones- will be conducted outdoors on tracks in real time but these are not expected before the end of this month, said officials. As reported earlier by DNA in its October 24 edition, the trial of the rake was to start from October 24... more...

The Central Railway train line for local commutation in Mumbai has been disrupted. Due to a rail fracture between Dadar and Matunga railway stations, the trains are not plying on the route. Meanwhile, the Railway authorities have diverted ‘down’ fast line locals to the slow line. Commuters from Dadar station claim that the trains are slower than usual and are heavily crowded. The rail fracture was reported at about 6:30 PM, which is considered to be the peak traffic time. As the trains are running extremely slow, the number of people at the station has been escalating. congested. Central Railway authorities have assured that the repair work is underway and the train routes would turn normal in sometime. However, the current impasse has added to the woes of Mumbaikars. Apart from the trains coming from CST, the locals moving towards Thane from all other lines are also running slow. The trains towards Thane are at least 15-20 minutes late. The Thane-bound trains are also reported to be heavily crowded. (ALSO READ: Red ants cause brake failure in Mumbai local train!) Central Railway authorities have reacted to the train line disruption in a prompt manner. By 6:40 PM, they acknowledged that the rail line has fractured between Dadar and Matunga.
