of drinking water facility and water pedestal on platform no 2, provision of modular shelters on each platform and improvement of circulating area and approach road. For other stations, he initiated provision of 200 numbers of Concord benches at various stations, provision of 188 stainless steel benches for waiting hall at various stations, construction of a waiting hall at Mulky station, renovation of toilets at Udupi, Surathkal, Gokarna, Ankola and Kumta stations and provision of 25 modular shelters at various stations. Tejas, dubbed “aeroplane moving on the ground” , boasts of amenities such as LED screens attached to seats, Wi-Fi, CCTV cameras, and tea/coffee vending machine. Madgaon-Mangluru section does not have enough traffic potential to justify the extension of premium Tejas which have more than 1000 ACC+EC seats.
22635/6 Madgaon - Mangaluru Central Intercity Express is operated with only 8 coaches 1ACC, 4-IIS, 1GEN, 2SLRs.

Although I don't agree with the demand for extension of Tejas to Mangaluru but if extended people will travel to Mumbai in Tejas not only to Madgaon, so I don't find your comparison that much relevant. But I don't know whether Tejas would get much patronage from there.

The intercity which you mentioned runs only between Mluru-Mgaon, hence poor patronage. But when we see people travelling between Mumbai-Mangaluru, it's good or above average. Both the current trains run full(Matsyagandha and Majn SF), erstwhile netravathi exp was also famous before extending it to Kerala. For testing of pax, they should extend this at-least weekly once

No Poor Patronage Now In Intercity.
All coaches Full including 2S and UR and only some seats will be vaccant in AC .
Not able to add more coaches as many coaches, which were there earlier is used in many other trains now.

* If there are waiting lists, the IR must augment it with appropriate coaches.
* A passenger train can recover costs if it runs with maximum number of coaches with a higher fraction of AC coaches (esp. ACIII) and runs with almost full occupancy.
* Operation an express/SF with 8 coach is not financially justified even with 100% occupancy, because revenue from such a train is likely to be less than 50% of operational costs.

Minister promises operation of Kudla Express from Mangaluru Central
Union Minister for Statistics and Programme Implementation D.V. Sadananda Gowda on Sunday said that the Indian Railways will strive to respond to development demands from Mangaluru railway region, which, at present, is spread across three Railway Zones.
He was speaking after Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu remotely flagged off the Mangaluru-Yeshwantpur Kudla Express; launched electrification of Mangaluru-Chervathur line; doubling of Jokatte-Panambur line and a railway siding at Thokur Station, here.
He

is aware that Mangaluru region is bereft of major railway amenities as it is served by the Southern, the South Western and Konkan Railways. Immediately taking charge as the Railway Minister, he had commenced the initiative of creating Mangaluru Railway Division; but it could not be done for technical reasons.
However, he now has initiated the move to relocate Konkan Railway’s regional office from Karwar to Mangaluru. This should culminate in some kind of reprieve for the region, he said.
The Minister said that the flagging off Kudla Express was the happiest movement in his life as he is giving something back to people who have nurtured him. He said that he had clearly told Mr. Prabhu that he would not attend any Railway function unless Kudla Express was introduced.
Mr. Sadananda Gowda said that when he had announced Kudla Express in the 2014 Railway Budget, he wanted it between Mangaluru Central and Yeshwantpur.
He is aware of the difficulties of the people reaching Mangaluru Junction from where it starts at present and has told Mr. Prabhu to get the train to Mangaluru Central, located inside the city. Soon, the train would come to Central and the inconvenient timings of its running too would be sorted out, he said.
Government Chief Whip in Legislative Council Ivan D’Souza launched an onslaught on Southern Railway which controls Mangaluru Central and Mangaluru Junction.
He said that the zone has been indifferent to the needs of the region despite it getting more than half of its revenue from New Mangalore Port.
Mr. D’Souza urged Southern Railway to be considerate to the region’s demand and urged it to introduce a night train between Bengaluru and Mangaluru.
Member of Parliament Nalin Kumar Kateel, Forest Minister B. Ramanath Rai and others were present.
Fare
The fare between Mangaluru and Yeshwantpur is ₹ 130 on Kudla Express, which has second class chair cars and general second class sitting coaches. It is ₹ 85 to Hassan, ₹ 95 to Shravanabelagola and ₹ 115 to Kunigal.

A major accident was averted at Karwar on the Konkan Railway route on Sunday morning, when the power car of Train No. 22476, Coimbatore-Bikaner Express, caught fire at Karwar, near the railway station.
According to railway officials, the train was running behind schedule due to line doubling work in neighbouring Dakshina Kannada. The train, which was to reach Karwar station at 2.30am on Sunday, reached at 7.15am.
The driver noticed smoke in the front power car attached to the AC bogey of the train while passing through a tunnel, about 1km from the

railway station. He immediately informed the station master, and the train, which was to stop at Karwar station, moved slowly as it had neared the destination.
On reaching Karwar, passengers were evacuated from the train, and the first three AC bogeys were separated from the engine. No loss of life or property was reported, nor did any passenger suffer any injuries, railway officials said. Fire engines waiting at the station brought the fire under control.
Railway officials said it was a minor incident and an inquiry has been ordered.
The passengers, though, counted themselves lucky that the fire was noticed when the train was close to Karwar station. "It is fortunate that it happened during the day. Had it been happened at night, when the train was running at high speed, the situation could have been different," said a passenger.
Officials said that prima facie, it is not a case of sabotage and the facts will be out only after an inquiry.
The three bogies next to the engine were separated and the train was allowed to continue its journey.
