Booking tickets for the local Pune-Lonavala and Pune- Daund trains has become a tad bit easier, with an Android application heading to the city straight from Mumbai. The passengers can now reserve their seats from the unreserved ticketing system (UTS) app, instead of heading for booking counters which are often marred by long queues.
“The idea behind introducing this app is the reliving commuters from queues. They will simply have to download UTS developed by Centre for Railway Information System (CRIS). Upon signing up, they will have to visit the ticket window to recharge the electronic wallet with Rs 100 in order to use it,” said senior divisional commercial manager Krishnath Patil of Pune railway division.
The

tickets booked on the app can be printed from the Automatic Ticket Vending Machines (ATVM) that are placed at various stations under the Pune division. “When commuters visit the application to book a ticket, they can choose either a paperless or a paper ticket,” added Patil.
More than 10 lakh passengers travel on six trains that ply on the Pune-Lonavala route and the two that run on the Pune-Daund route. The ones who commute daily have welcomed the move with open arms.
Kiran Jadhav, who frequents the Chinchwad-Shivajinagar route, said, “There have been times when we are out of money. If the mobile app is really happening, we can book tickets locally. It will save us the time and effort that goes into booking the journey every day.”
Another commuter Shashank Khire, who take the Pune-Daund trains, said, “We have to take the unreserved ticket for the one-hour travel. Sometimes, we do not even buy tickets in order to catch the train on time. It ends up in us paying fines. The app will help us in such scenarios where we can book tickets on the app upon catching the train first.”

I have been using the UTS App, a bit of correction from my experience. For PUNE division, there is no option of paperless travel, but paper ticket, meaning you can book your UR/Platform ticket on the app, but you have to collect from a counter or an ATVM, else you will be deemed without ticket. For Mumbai region, paperless as well as paper ticket options are available, you can either book ticket on app, collect it via a counter or ATVM or simply opt for paperless option while booking & go to 'show ticket' option in the app for it to work as an e-ticket to be shown if asked by a checking staff on trains as well as platforms. Thanks!

MUMBAI: The Central Railway (CR) on Sunday successfully conducted speed trial for trains to run at 120 kmph on a stretch between Karjat and Neral stations. Officials said this was to ensure that the tracks could withstand the running of high-speed trains in near future. Trains to Pune and south India ply along this corridor.
"The trial was successful and the tracks were found to be in good condition," a senior official said, adding that at present trains run at a maximum speed of 100-110 kmph on this section.
He said a team

led by CR general manager D K Sharma supervised the speed trial runs.Commissioner of Railway Safety Sushil Chandra and this team were also present.
The team also conducted inspections of the bridges and tunnels on the Mumbai-Pune route. Recently, a gangman was crushed to death by a boulder while three more persons were injured at Monkey Hill railway station on Mumbai-Pune route. Sources said the railways has been sensitizing the gangmen and asking them to take precautionary measures to prevent mishaps.
Another senior official sa id, "The inspections were conducted randomly and all safety parameters were adhered to."
The team also laid special emphasis on track inspection along the route --Neral to Lonavla.Similar inspections were recently carried out along the entire suburban section following incidents of unscrupulous elements trying to sabotage train services by keeping rail piece or a rods on track.

A very good step. At least beginning has been made to speed up the Mum-Pune route with one of the straight section (just 13km long between Karjat and Neral stations) of curves & EMU ridden Mum/Kalyan-Pune section. The speed shall be 120kmph on the route against earlier 100/110. In fact all the straighter sections of the route should be made 130 kmph.
-
Conversion of electrification from dc to ac has been a boon to CR/IR by way of reduction in journey time, use of speedier and more powerful ac locos, elimination
...
of traction change (at Pune) in future when CSTM-MAS is electrified. As a result, an appreciable reduction in the timings of express trains to clear Mum-Pune stretch have been achieved in last few years.
-
The present step is a nice beginning towards further reduction in journey time on Mumbai & Pune high traffic route in future. Vast portion of Mumbai-Pune traffic is presently on road due to shorter distance and comparable/ lesser timing & more convenience of pickup and drop points. If IR can reduce the Mum-Pune distance substantially, IR could attract the traffic from road.
Steps to achieve higher speed, lesser journey time, and to attract a huge quantum of traffic from buses or taxi/private vehicles:
(1) Dc to ac conversion- done and benefits reaped
(2) Speeding up from 100/110kmph to 120/130 kmph-steps initiated
(3) Straightening of the curves & flattening of gradients through construction of straighter, flatter and much shorter path bye pass line (fit for 160+ kmph train) across the ghat & other curvy sections.
(4) Upgrading the remaining part from 130kmph to 160+ kmph so that a non stop CSTM-PUNE train may take around 1:30 hrs.

Passengers on the Solapur-Miraj-Pune routes will have problems with their train commute over a period of five days between February 1 and February 5. Central Railway will operate special traffic blocks for Non-Interlock working in connection with doubling (adding a new track) of Mohol - Vakav section of Solapur Division. Non-interlocking work, according to railway officials, is the detaching of various track signalling systems inter-locked with each other in order to add more signals to take care of the extra set of tracks.

PUNE: Three cities from the state are expected to undergo a rail network revamp as part of the Union government's plan to start fast train corridors.
Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis said the Centre was ready to consider the development of the Mumbai-Nashik-Nagpur fast-train corridor. In reply to a text message sent by TOI on the possibility of the Union government's ambitious bullet train project including Pune and Nashik, the CM said, "Not as yet. But the Union government is ready to consider Mumbai-Nashik-Nagpur fast corridor in lieu of that."
Earlier, the government had

agreed to the state's request to extend the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project to Pune and Nashik. Sources told TOI it was a possibility even now.
"It has not been refused by the CM. He has said it has not yet been approved so it can mean that a request may have gone to the Union government and is waiting for approval. However, that the Centre is considering the fast rail corridor is good news for the state. The cities are expected to see several infrastructural developments. If the fast corridor is to be developed between the three cities, setting up of new tracks and land acquisition will be needed," a Railways official requesting anonymity told TOI.
The Rs 98,000 crore Ahmedabad-Mumbai bullet train project may go operational by 2023. The corridor is expected to have 10 stations and Japanese International Cooperation Agency that had conducted studies recently said the fares will be among the cheapest in the world. The maximum design speed of this train is 350 kmph and the journey would take 2 hours 58 minutes.
The Railways ministry recently said they were considering new corridors that could be converted into high speed with trains travelling at 250 kmph. The corridors include Delhi-Mumbai, Mumbai-Chennai, Delhi-Kolkata and Delhi-Nagpur.
"Once the Union government approves the route, work will begin. On Tuesday, the state government provided a seed funding of Rs 500 crore to Maharashtra Railway Infrastructure Development Company to facilitate new and existing rail projects in the state. The company will also look into land acquisition, rehabilitation and compensation," another Railways official said.

Nagpur is second capital of MH, not Pune. That makes it more important, politically. there no biased decision there.
The CM frm NGP reportedly gave funds for the rakes of the expected CSTM-NDLS Rajdhani train, which gives no benefit to Nagpur.
You are comparing Mumbai-Pune with Mumbai-Nagpur.
The actual comparison should be Mumbai-Howrah and Mumbai-Nagpur.
A

big distance of Mumbai Delhi is getting upgraded to 160 kmph being a 'A' class route (potentials of 160 kph), that is real big distance in just one go.
Similarly, We have Mumbai Howrah amongst A class routes, out which Mumbai Nagpur might be done in first leg, be it upgradation of existing double electrified route from 110 Kmph to 160 kmph Nagpur-Igatpuri like for NDLS-BCT or separate new Corridor like for Bandra-Kurla C to Ahemdabad Bullet, using the same BKC terminal for both.
Nagpur comes in centre of 4 metros to be connected by High Speed out of which most economical for Nagpur, surely would be Nagpur-Mumbai route for obvious reasons, so, when opportunity strikes, why not it a consideration?
Besides, Just one route Mumbai Ahemdabad
how much will it benefit actually? Same terminal could be used for Mumbai Nagpur as well.
From Ahemdabad where would it get extended its unclear but if Mumbai Nagpur gets bullet, it can extended to Nagpur Howrah.
Ofcourse, great work would be required through the Thull ghats, but when Katra can get connected likewise, why cant this one?

About, Pune-Ahemdabad High speed corridor. Pune-Nasik new route is approved, Nasik-Surat is under survey and Surat-Ahemdabad is getting upgraded to 160 kmph. Giving a Pune-Mumbai Bullet would be a big waste for such a small distance, where shatabdi was a big failure, instead of that Pune-Nasik-Surat-BRC-Adi, it would be more economical.
There is no need of bullet here despite there is no ghat nothing, a semi high speed Pune-Ahemdabad train would be enough.

Grievance Description : Subject:- Upgradation of existing Mumbai-Nagpur route. The planned bullet train between Nagpur and Mumbai by state government has been called off. It is a well known fact that Mumbai-Nagpur route is the part of A class Mumbai-Howrah Route, having potentials of 160 kmph. Currently, What is the max permissible speed (mps) of Mumbai-Kasara-Igatpuri-Nagpur route? For start, the Igatpuri-Nagpur route should be upgraded to 130 kmph and subsequently, to 160 kmph. This would be very useful to cut down the travel time between the state capital Mumbai and second capital Nagpur. Currently, Mumbai-Howrah AC Duronto Express has the rake capable of 160 kmph. Further more mumbai-nagpur tejas or shatabdi could be given by Railway Board.

Why are we working on Workarounds -- Why not get the EMU essentials done on DD-PUNE route? with DEMU we still have no direct connectivity from Lonavala to DD + adding standing time on PUNE station, which is already congested. Come on -- let's work on to get EMU started asap do not divert your attention.

The proposed bullet train to run between Mumbai and Ahmedabad will take the longer route to include Pune and Nashik, reported Makarand Gadgil for Mumbai Mirror. This comes as a victory for Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who had attracted criticism from several quarters for accepting a deal that favoured Gujarat more despite both states pooling in the same amount of money. According to the plan, Gujarat had eight stops on the rail while Maharashtra had four. Now, with the inclusion of Pune and Nashik, this arrangement will change.
Sources tell Mumbai Mirror that this change has come about as part of a bargain between Fadnavis and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Until now, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) was opposed

to a proposal by the railways to set up a terminus at Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC). The MMRDA wanted this plot for an international financial services centre. A proposed underground terminus was also rejected by the MMRDA. The new move is set to end this stand-off and pave the way for a terminus at BKC.
Land acquisition should not be a problem for extending this high-speed rail corridor to Pune and Nashik as ample space is available along the Pune-Mumbai Expressway and the Mumbai-Nagpur Expressway, a section of which covers areas from Nashik district.
