A proposal in this regard has been submitted to the railway headquarters for approval
Section of speeds of some trains in the Mysuru division of the South Western Railway is likely to be increased and a proposal for the same has been submitted to the railway headquarters for approval.
As per the proposal, the top speed of trains to Nanjangud, which is restricted to 70 kmph at present, will be increased to 90 kmph. This is subject to completion of ballasting which is in progress and the tentative date of completion of the

ongoing ballasting work is June 30, 2017.
The proposal to speed up the train on the section was sent on the railway headquarters on December 30, 2016 and is expected in due course. Once the trains are speeded up, the 25-km stretch between Mysuru and Nanjangud can be covered in shorter duration as against nearly 45 minutes that it takes at present. Incidentally, the four-laning of the highway between Mysuru and Nanjangud has reduced the tedium of motoring on the road and the distance is covered in around 25 to 30 minutes by the motorists.
Similarly, for trains plying in the section between Nanjangud and Chamarajanagar, which has a route length of 35 km, the top speed at present is 70 kmph and the proposal is to increase the same to 100 kmph to reduce the running time of the trains.
The Chamarajanagar-Mysuru trains are the lifeline of the daily wagers from the rural hinterland as thousands of workers with Izzat pass use the services daily and seek employment in the construction sector.
On the Mysuru-Bengaluru section, the newly completed broad gauge double line 6-km stretch between Mysuru and Naganahalli has a speed limit of 70 kmph at present. It is proposed to increase it to 100 kmph and the tentative date of completing the ballasting work is June 30, 2017, according to railway officials.
The Hassan – Sakleshpur section, with a route length of 42 km, has a sectional speed of 65 kmph and it is proposed to increase it to 70 kmph and this is expected to be cleared once the ballasting works are completed in another two months.
Trains on the Shivamogga Town-Talaguppa sections are also to be speeded up and the current speed limit on the 97-km stretch varies from 50 kmph to 70 kmph between different points. This is to be increased to 70 kmph to 90 kmph for which the proposal has been sent to the higher authorities.

It's probably because the Earth below tracks is not fully stable. From what I've heard, it takes some time for ground to stabilize. Maybe that's why they're increasing MYS-CMNR stretch now, though gauge conversion was complete back in 2007.

Seven stations, including Bengaluru, Mysuru and Mangaluru, have the facility
Very soon, 12 more railway stations in the State would get high-speed free Wi-Fi facility for passengers. Seven major stations in the State have the facility now.

with the task of installation of Wi-Fi facility at 400 stations across the country in collaboration with Google, under the Digital India initiative of the Union government.
Presently, free Wi-Fi is available at KRS Bengaluru City, Yeshwantpur, Mysuru, Hubballi, Mangaluru Central, and Kalaburagi stations through RailTel. Belagavi station has got the facility under the MPLAD scheme. With each access point covering up to 40 metres, all platforms, passenger concourse and entrance of the stations are covered, according to South Western Railway’s chief public relations officer E. Vijaya.
In 2017–18, the Railways would provide the facility at Vijayapura, Ballari, Dharwad, Hosapete, and Vasco da Gama (Goa) stations in Hubballi division; Bengaluru Cantonment (to be commissioned shortly), Bangarpet, Kengeri, Krishnarajapuram, and Sri Satya Sai Prasanti Nilayam stations in Bengaluru division; Davangere and Shivamogga Town in Mysuru division, and Mangaluru Junction station in Palakkad division of Southern Railway.
Seventeen more stations would be covered in the next financial year. They are Bagalkot, Gadag, Koppal, Londa, and Toranagallu in Hubballi division; Banaswadi, Hindupur, Hosur, Mandya, Tumakuru, and Yelahanka in Bengaluru division, and Arsikere, Birur, Bhadravathi, Harihar, Haveri and Hassan in Mysuru division.
One can get Internet access with speeds up to 1 Mbps for upload and 3 Mbps for download for the first 30 minutes. Subsequently, the speed reduces to 64 Kbps, but, one could access railway-related sites through WiFi for information such as PNR, and train inquiry, throughout the day.

BENGALURU: Taking a major step towards monetising railway assets and upgrading passenger amenities, Indian Railways on Wednesday invited tenders for development of vacant railway land in the vicinity of 23 railway stations. This includes Bangalore Cantonment and Yeshwantpur in Bangalore Railway Division.
Briefing newspersons at the Divisional Railway Manager’s office before Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu inaugurated the ‘Station Redevelopment Programme’ (announced in this year’s Railway budget) from New Delhi through video link, General Manager of South Western Railway, A K Gupta, said a total of 22.5 acres in Bengaluru will be offered for private development.
“This

will include 20 acres located 4 km from Yeshwantpur station and 2.25 acres near Cantonment station, located along Thimmaiah Road connecting Queen’s Road,” he said.
Tenders were floated for commercial development of these places on Wednesday and the last date for accepting bids is June 1. The Swiss Challenge Method, which is more transparent than the regular tendering process, has been adopted.

“The bidder can have any commercial venture in railway land, which will be offered on a 45-year lease. Simultaneously, the two stations need to be provided with all conceivable passenger amenities and facilities so that they become iconic ventures,” he added.
Fifteen more stations in South Western Railway will be developed. These include Belagavi, Ballari, Vijayapura, Davangere, Dharwad, Hosapete, Hubballi, Krishnarajapuram, Shivamogga, Sai Prashanti Nilayam, Vasco Da Gama, Bangarpet and Bengaluru city (Krantivira Sangolli Rayanna) stations, Gupta said.
In the second phase, bids for redevelopment of 100 stations will be put out in June. In the third and final phase in December, 250-plus stations will be covered.
Suresh Prabhu, in a speech telecast live across many railway divisions, said that the space near railway stations falls under the “most valuable real estate in the country.”
“The entire Stations Redevelopment Programme was targeting `1 lakh crore to be obtained by monetising 2,200 acres of land across 100 cities across the country,” he said. Altogether 400-plus A1 and A stations would be developed.

Bengaluru, Jan 16 (PTI) The Karnataka government and the Railways Ministry today signed a memorandum of understanding in what is seen as a step towards realising the citys long standing demand for a suburban railway system to address its notorious traffic congestion.
The MoU for the development of suburban railway system in Bengaluru was released by Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah at a function here.
Counting on the credentials of Bengaluru as a global city and technology capital of the country, Prabhu said it is the duty of the government,

at the Centre and the state, that transportation needs of the people are taken care of.
With this in mind, a decision has been taken to start suburban railway system for the city, he said.
A special company would be set up for the project and it will be financed through an "innovative" way, Prabhu said.
"It is no longer possible for either the state government or the central government to find money for the budget from their normal revenue source to finance entire infrastructure needs.... so we have to find an innovative way," he said, adding it would not come into the Fiscal Responsibility and Budget Management Act of the state government .
Pointing out that there were equity related concerns raised by the state government, Prabhu said they would be looked into.
Siddaramaiah, who expressed reservation over the Centres draft suburban rail policys financing pattern, said "the Minister (Prabhu) has now spoken about adopting innovative ways of funding for which the state government will provide its fullest cooperation. We are also fine with involving of the private partners."
Pointing out that the draft mentions financing pattern as 20 per cent by central government and 80 per cent by the state government, he said it would be burden on Karnataka.
He proposed a 50:50 financing pattern, and requested that the Centre should share the land cost also.
At the function organised by the South Western Railway, Prabhu and Siddaramaiah unveiled the plaque for laying of foundation stone for new coaching terminal at Baiyyappanahalli aimed at decongesting other terminals in the city.
They also flagged off KSR Bengaluru/Yesvantpur-Shivamogga train and MEMU train between KSR Bengaluru and Ramanagara.
Promising that Bengaluru-Mysuru track doubling would be commissioned before March-end, Prabhu also sought the state governments cooperation in quadrupling of the line between Bengaluru to Whitefield as it will help in easing the traffic congestion. PTI KSU RA BN ANB

Shivamogga: Sixty-six years ago, land owners in Kagodu village in Sagar taluk agreed to the demands of poor tillers, who were allegedly oppressed by them, by giving ownership to land tillers. Through Kagodu Sathyagraha, the agitation by tillers was led by the founder of socialist movement in the country, Ram Manohar Lohia, and that of the state Shanthveri Gopla Gowda.
The agitation ignited by young and old socialists with active support of tillers thus sowed the seed of Land Reforms Act later by then chief minister D Devaraj Urus in the state.

Shanthavari Gopla Gowda Social Trust, which is helping farmers get their benefits, has been urging Union and state governments for four decades to name the Sagar railway station after Lohia and allow the trust to install a bust of him at the station. Till now, the railway ministry has not taken any positive decision in this regard.
Kallur Megharaj, a managing trustee of the trust, said the railway ministry should agree to re-name the railway station as a mark of respect to the great leader of the country who inspired poor tillers to see the light and urged the state government and parliamentarians to support their cause.
